Long live handcrafted art. But also, how can we embrace our future with AI? Which simultaneously feels hopeless and filled with endless potential?

This is a cartoon about a little CEO named Bob, his quest to get paid, and the dire consequences.

Watch in widescreen on Youtube or Vimeo so you don’t have to look at this vertical nonsense. But hey, I guess it’s the future isn’t it?🤷🏻

Directed and animated by this guy

This Friday come have a cocktail and spiral into the darkest recesses of your mind. Maxwell Rousso will be exhibiting the artworks shaped by inner chaos and his experiences in Berlin.

Maxwell Rousso is an American filmmaker, artist, and writer living in Berlin. His work moves between different mediums while remaining rooted in an intuitive, emotionally driven process.

His paintings and other works explore the layers hidden within simple ideas, often drawing from subconscious feelings, inner chaos, and lived experience. The result is deeply emotional and sometimes abrasive work that confronts the audience. Through it, Rousso aims to give form to feelings that are often experienced silently, making our private anguish feel a little less private. taken in PERRO LOCO by @maxwellrousso

As it turns out, I am a young man named Maxwell and I live in a body.

The first physical, handmade artwork I ever sold were little paintings of ducks on 10x10 canvases that glow in the dark. I would bring them in bulk into my favorite nightclub as necklaces around my neck and lock tourists into a game of bartering and trading.

God bless the @sisyphosberlin community and their support—or maybe just tolerance—of my nonsense.

This entire painting was conceived and created on the Hopper floor of @kater.berlin. In collaboration with @4q4error, I was allowed to bring the canvas fresh into the club and let my surroundings influence an intuitive process. I spent about ten hours on the floor exploring the image and allowing whatever this is to unfold.

Some people were a little confused, and I think I felt a bit watched. That feeling eventually found its way into the painting, emerging as figures, which is completely different than anything else I have painted.

I remember the creek. I remember collecting sticks and building houses for fairies. I remember inventing things. I remember having so much empathy for a stuffed animal that it would make me cry to let it go. I remember VHS tapes and the fuzziness of the screen. I remember cinnamon toast. I remember magic kits and science experiments and lemonade stands. I remember the neighborhood and the smell of grass. I remember the freedom of a bicycle. Of climbing a tree. I remember campfires and marshmallows. I remember night-lights and glowing stars. I remember believing anything was possible.

As a reference, I used a photo of Grey Silverman’s (@grey_silverman) family mountain house, where my oldest friends from growing up spent the last three winter breaks.

Also a majority of this painting was created beside my buddy Alejandro (@aleraa._ )while he practiced DJing. I found that painting and DJing are two art forms that mutually benefit each other and we spent many hours of many days beside each other practicing our craft.

🎬 Commission for Ava Hart’s next film “I Want You To Suffer.”

@ava.hart.jpg

A year and a half ago, Ava described this image to me for her new film. At the time, I was in one of the most painful periods of my life and it’s kind of insane how closely it mirrored what I was feeling.

This image reflects a darkness in me I don’t enjoy facing. But I’ve learned that the more you resist it, the more powerful it becomes.

Today, I’m doing much better. And I see now that darkness is nothing to be ashamed of.

Also I’ve been getting a lot better at color shading :) taken in Hell by @maxwellrousso
