Matewan (1987) is an all-time great film. I can't believe it took me this long to see one of John Sayles directorial features. David Strathairn is the standout playing real life Matewan chief of police "Two Gun" Sid Hatfield (of the Hatfield-McCoy feud). During the actual gunfight at Matewan Sid killed two of the Felts brothers of the Baldwin-Felts detective agency (like Pinkertons with fewer scruples) including Albert Felts who was their field leader. Unfortunately their elder brother, Thomas Felts, director and co-owner of the agency, organized Sid's assassination in the following months which sparked the Battle of Blair Mountain. Matewan does justice to this uniquely American drama, John Sayles crafted something pretty close to perfect. by @maxwheelsheephard

Syngenor (1990) is a perfect vehicle for David Gale to go completely apeshit and give easily the most wackadoo performance of his career. Syngenor stands for Synthesized Genetic Organism by the way. by @maxwheelsheephard

Lam Nai-Choi's heroic bloodshed movie, Men From the Gutter (1983) is about what you would hope from Choi doing a shoot-em-up. Violent, kinetic, imaginative action sequences. by @maxwheelsheephard

I've never seen a user rating spread like this on letterboxd before but it makes perfect sense after watching the movie. Love on a Leash is like the Birdemic of romcoms. by @maxwheelsheephard
