Working on staying relaxed! A bit of Jaco Funk to finish off a big day. I have been getting lessons off of the amazing Eric Ajaye and I have been trying to incorporate all of his feedback. It’s been a real joy for me, I am very inspired! ✌️ by @maxxbassprojects

Having some fun, practicing for some upcoming shows! I probably won’t play Pink Pony Club on Sunday. Or maybe I will? It would be lovely to see anyone who can make it out to @smithsalternative on Sunday for my gig with @stonebird_duo . They are amazing and I love them. Hey everyone! I have a show coming up on the 20th of September at the amazing @smithsalternative with the incredible @stonebird_duo . This is the first time I have performed this solo show in Canberra and I would love to see you there! It features a range of songs that revolve around the theme of the person amongst the machine- the influence of digital tools on my creative work! I work in a space where nothing is pre recorded, I live loop and play everything. I would love to see you there!!! by @maxxbassprojects

The Waking by Thomas Roethke. Music by Kurt Elling. The complete version of this will be performed at my show on the 20th of September supporting the amazing @stonebird_duo . This is an adaptation of a poem by Thomas Roethke. A long time ago, I thought this song was about death. As I have gotten older I think it’s more about living with chronic illness, coming to terms with death over a long period of time. My solo show is about the intersection of man, machine and creativity (my research area as well!) and this song serves a purpose to show that there is a person in and amongst the technology. Chronic Bass & Stonebird - Local double bill up in the bar
Sunday September 20, 3:30pm - 5:30pm
$15/10, www.smithsalternative.com/events/chronic-bass-stonebird-103537

Mansell Bass’ solo improvised bass & Chris Thwaite (drums/percussion) and Fiona Bolton (keys/vocals) duo
Chronic Bass brings together the raw expressiveness of solo double bass with cutting-edge electronic improvisation, blending classical technique with modern technology in real-time. Drawing on 25 years of musical experience and research into digital creativity, this project explores the intersection of live performance and experimental sound-making. Expect unfiltered performances—no overdubs, no safety net—where every moment is spontaneous and unrepeatable.

Stonebird was formed as a duo over the last six months by Chris Thwaite (drums/percussion) and Fiona Bolton (keys/vocals) who have played together in a number of projects over the last 25 years. Both appreciate jazz-adjacent tunes, polyrhythms, a filmic/atmospheric sensibility and solving mysteries. Stonebird is already known for (expanding quickly) allowing their music to adapt with guest performers and for their random and yet relevant facts in banter. taken in Smith's Alternative by @maxxbassprojects
