Collection of some of the stunning images captured by the artist @maya_arkane. These images are part of a collection called Ibagari. In Garifuna Ibagari means life. I’ve been in a state of deep reflection on the meaning of life and what it truly means to have this gift. This is such a deeply spiritual time in the life of many of us. Some days have been so dark and others have been luminous.

Humanity is at a turning point and we get to choose the path we take. As I sit in deep contemplation and look into the eyes of this beautiful baby, majestically sitting on a horse, I look into the eyes of my beloved Tio Conque, and my dear friend Leiner I am reminded of the precious moment this life has brought to me. The sage I burn to replenish my energy when I am low, and returning to ocean to recharge, I stop and I am reminded of the precious moments this life offers all of us.

We are all just a collection of moments and memories. I am learning to cherish it all because it brought us here. Ibagari = Life

Whilst studying my degree the conversation around climate change drastically altered. The narrative moved from defending animals to highlighting human stories and the ways we have caused the climate crisis. This shift influenced my photography and made me focus more on human-centric environmental stories and looking into climate activism. One of the climate activist groups that I always loved to photograph is Extinction Rebellion. They are always so vibrant, evocative and inspiring to be around.

With Cop 26 currently on, I thought it only right to reflect on the last few years and with the influence of Extinction Rebellion, has it really helped to aid the fight from climate justice?

Check out : https://mayaarkanephotography.com/extinction-rebellion-london-xr to look at more of my images of Extinction Rebellion.

Last night I was invited to the @galapagosconservationtrust Galapagos Day Event and I had a fantastic time. This years question was: should you visit the Galapagos? Overall debating how tourists can do this is in a sustainable way and supporting the local economy. I’m biased as I loved my time there and photographing the local community and sustainable developments initiatives, is some of the work I’m most proud of.

I was one of this years judges for the photography exhibition. All the images were outstanding so very difficult to choose the winners!

It was also lovely to catch up with @danielproanobravo from @fundacionuncambioxlavida, who I worked with when on the islands. He did an incredible talk last night about the work @fundacionuncambioxlavida does and his take on eco-tourism to the Galápagos Islands.

I’m excited to carry on this work as an ambassador for @fundacionuncambioxlavida. My images are on a permanent exhibition on Santa Cruz Island, so if you’re visiting, go check it out!

Excited to continue this project!

This image of a sleeping baby sealion with a Galapagos lava lizard looking at it recieved an award in the animal interaction category of the Galapagos photography competition run by @galapagosconservationtrust 🦭🌊💙
" I love how there's a softness in this image, perfectly representing how wildlife lives in harmony on the islands. When I visited Galapagos, I saw the sea lions cuddling all the time and I love how this image has captured this. The lizard in there too makes this image so joyful.”

This image titled 'Red Carpet' was runner up in the Galapagos photography competition in colours of the Galapagos category. The red succulent of the Galapagos is Galapagos carpet weed (Sesuvium edmonstonei), a native ground-cover plant that turns brilliant red and orange during the cool, dry season. I took this photo of a mum and baby sealion snuggled in at sunset on Chinese Hat with world renowned wildlife filmmaker and friend @richard_hopkins22 at my side. 🦭🌊💙
"The vibrancy of the red plants with the brown of the sea lion, then contrasting with the black volcanic rock is amazing.”
