a fringe run beautifully captured by @jed.shots (still can’t believe it’s over) by @mayafeba
an ending note, from me to you: When you say something, it becomes real. Or at least that’s what my play is about. Words validate everything around us. And for the past two years, I’ve been repeatedly saying “I’m going to perform at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival” to anyone who was willing to listen. And alas - here I am. On the other side of it. Was it everything I thought it would be? No. Was it better? No. Worse? No. It was… real. It was real. And what the show purposefully doesn’t explore is how words can also limit everything around us. The moment we put something into words, we box it into a straightforward meaning. And so, instead of really summing up this experience and trying to find the right words, like I have been trying to do on stage for the past month… I’ll keep it with me. I won’t limit it to words. Maya the character isn’t ready for this lesson, but I think I am. Instead, I’ll use this Instagram opportunity to say thank you (which is also a limited word - there should be a much deeper equivalent for my gratitude) to every single person who made this experience what it was. To my fierce and talented team, to my incredible, incomparable friends who came to visit and support the show from all over the world, to my family (especially my mum), to all the new friends I made during this festival - and all the people who came to see the show. You’re now my friends too. Until next time? - Maya xx by @mayafeba
