One day you’re 2 years old & dancing on the beach with your brother. In that moment, nothing else matters. You’re too young to know how mean the world is. You race on boogie boards & eat SpongeBob shaped ice creams & force him to build sand castles with you, not knowing how precious this time together is. In your 2 year old mind, you never run out of time with the bubs.

As you grow up, you both go through the awkward phases & have daily fights over who gets to play the wii first (Wii bowling was always the compromise for us both). & at the end of the day, no matter the silly sibling bickering that drove your mom crazy, you still got tucked into rooms just down the hall from one another. & you slept peacefully knowing you got to do life with your older brothers the very next day.

Suddenly you’re a senior in highschool & opening your mailbox to see college acceptance letters with your name on them. You have the world in your hands & like always, your brothers encouraging you to chase your dreams.

& before you know it you’re 20 years old & waking up to news you never imagined.

Suddenly you’re connected to yourself as a child, dancing on the beach. You remember the spilt cereal milk you & your brothers left on the kitchen table every morning before elementary school. You remember begging the bubs to play Polly Pockets with you when you got home from children’s church. You remember riding in your brothers first truck the day he turned 16. You remember all the detailed little moments that made up the past 20 years.

You try to remember how it felt to not worry about growing up & loosing time with the people closest to you. You try to remember the times before you knew life wasn’t all sunshine & rainbows.

& you wish you hadn’t taken so many simple moments for granted.

All you have left are memories.

Memories of Will’s kindness.

Memories of Will’s graciousness.
Memories of Will’s love.
Memories of Will’s fearlessness.
Memories of Will’s simplicity.
