FAQ: Why hearts?
A : They began as an homage to my son, Orion Xavier Jamil , who was stillborn mid december 2011. It was incredible to me as an artist that my body had created a 2nd heart....
More recently one of my dearest friends passed away after a heart transplant. My hearts are offerings i think. Tho I'm not sure to whom....
Hearts are weird and wonderful and fragile and powerful and timelessly symbolic in every culture/ religion/ mythology....
I used to do much more writing, but since C°vid I have had a harder time articulating the fireworks of feeling that happen in my brain. So i express thru hearts & hearts & hearts & hearts. Sacred hearts. Offrenda hearts. Spirit animal hearts. Heart guardians. Angel hearts. Ancestral hearts. Fragile glass hearts. Hearts of stone....
All my heart.
Maybe you will find one (or 5 or 6) that speak to you. They all need to keep flying away so i can make more.
Thanks, everypeoplez!

Every once in a while the music part of my past comes up, and i realize how many people who are relatively new to my life don't know anything about it - so here's a recap:
In 1994 I moved from Dallas to NYC to pursue my wacky rock&roll dreams. I lived that shit hard, did pretty well - but undid myself by overdedicating my energy to an emotionally abusive junkie. By the time i escaped that situation i had health issues (phys&emo) which eventually led me back to Texas at the end of '06. (* See slide 2 for the explosive ending of what ended up being my last show, at CBGB in 2005)
But the years between 1994 and 2007 were FULL of so much greatness. NYC was the first (only) time i didn't feel like a total alien everywhere I went. And the creative magic happening there during those years can't be described. There are like 5 different books i could write about those years 😄.
I always thought I'd make my way back to music, but the past 2 decades (?!) here in Austin have been slam packed with their own challenges.
I've never stopped creating & growing tho, including a whole-ass short film released in 2016, an advanced belt in martial arts, 8 Spartan Races, gigs as a veterinary technician & preschool teacher, child-loss survivor 🕊, and now full-time artist with random farm animals in my backyard 😄 (* @wonderfluppets 👀).
Music is still part of who i am, just quieter now. The way i used to write & perform loud wild rock songs, i know create loud wild heart paintings.
Now go scroll thru my page & find one or three to hang on your wall!
Cheers, Dears.
