Thank you everyone for coming out to the opening of #TheEarthWeInherit

This weekend life came in full circle for me. In college I studied post-colonial theory which was the premise for me creating @blackartandphilosophy

I felt it urgent to create a platform for artists to authentically tell their stories without being misrepresented, misunderstood, or rewritten to fit a distorted narrative. It was exhilarating to exhibit “Post-colonialism” by @giannilee and to exhibit surviving artwork by @chukesart (Who’s dedicated to authentically recording and telling his own history) and a new sculpture by LA native @dicksonstudio4233 who’s life’s work has reflected the principles of Sankofa.

Then to exhibit on Slauson! South of the 10 fwy! My family and friends didn’t have to drive to Hollywood. Some of them could walk to an art exhibition in their own neighborhood IYKYK ❤️💙🏁

Big thank you to all of the artists who I personally hand selected. Everyone’s energy aligned perfectly! Also big thank you @juliasmith3909 and Linda @rangeprojectsgallery for helping execute this exhibition .

The exhibition will be open until July 15th. @rangeprojectsgallery

ARTWORK IS FOR SELL!
DM me if interested or contact Executive Art Director, Julia at Range projects.

See you all at the closing panel discussion on July 12 4-8pm link in bio to rsvp

Last Sunday, we had the honor of hosting world-renowned artist Mr. Wash @mrwashtheartist for a book signing of his new book, Artists In Space.

The afternoon featured a wonderful conversation between Mr. Wash and Michael Massenburg, facilitated by Maya G., as they reflected on art, community, and the importance of creating spaces for future generations.

If you missed the event, we still have copies of Artists in Space available at our community bookstore, @baapboutique . You can also order a copy through Mr. Wash’s link in bio. All proceeds support the building of his community center in Compton.

Thank you to everyone who came out and continues to support our tiny community bookstore. ✨🖤📚🎨

Mr. Wash’s story is as powerful as his work. After spending more than two decades incarcerated, art became an essential part of his life and a path toward freedom, purpose, and community. In 2016, he received clemency from President Barack Obama and has since continued building his career as an artist while giving back to his community.

The afternoon will feature a special conversation between Mr. Wash and artist Michael Massenburg, facilitated by Maya G., followed by a signing of Artists in Space.

Mr. Wash is also raising funds toward his vision of creating a community center in Compton to support and create opportunities for the next generation.

I love you, Betye! ✨❤️🕊️

My favorite artist from the Black Arts Movement. I use to always write about her in poems, notes, posts. I saw Betye as more than an artist. She was/ is a mystic, an alchemist, a seed planter, a mother to many, and now a bright star in our constellation🌟

The last two conversations I had with her were about her garden and how much she enjoyed it… This feels like a grievance of a generation of artists who had a fire and calm in them that I rarely see in today’s artists. But I know there are seeds planted waiting to bloom.

Well done, Betye! 💐
