Nursery, finished 🤍
A little throwback to the final days of getting this room ready, trim going up, paint drying on the walls, and one very determined big brother right there with us the whole time. Brush in his hand, focus on his face, just wanting to be part of it.
He's spent his whole life watching us build and create including this house, room by room. And somewhere in those last few weeks of painting, I think it hit me: he wasn't just helping paint a wall. He was helping build the space where his little sister would come home to.
She's here now, and this moment with him helping mommy and me design this space will stay with us forever. When I walk into that room, I think about him and how he will continue to learn the skills we have and one day create his own projects. This one's going to stay with me for a long time.

It's official, the baby of the family has moved out! There are lots of emotions right now. When you take a moment to reflect on where they were to where they are going and you watch them flourish is so many ways, careers, relationships and hobbies. The best part about this process was watching his creative style come together for his space. He chose the textures and colours, he chose the style of furniture and what pieces he wanted and designed the salon style photo wall for his art (to be added). He created a warm cozy environment to enjoy.

This side wall next to the fridge on our island used to be completely overlooked — just a blank, boring spot. But with a little creativity and DIY superpowers, we turned it into a charming plate shelf that’s both functional and decorative.

Now it adds character to the kitchen and gives our favourite kitchen wares and decor a stylish new home. Proof that even the smallest corners can make a big impact!

Possibilities are endless to add warmth and texture to a space, even to rental spaces.

Can you believe we took these white pvc roofing panels and made a feature wall?!?

We added 1 x 2 -8 foot long wood slats to the canvas that was already installed on the wall, creating an extended 8 foot x 8 foot frame. We taped the pvc panels together in the back. This kept the panels lined up and stopped any movement. You can also adjust the width this way. If you need it a bit shorter, tape a panel in more and not on the edge to fit for installation. We needed to drill the holes first for the screws because you don't want to crack the pvc, then you can screw it to the frame.

We selected a #behr scuff defense paint and primer. I can't rave enough about this paint. It hasn't disappointed me yet and I have used it on cupboard doors in bathrooms and kitchens which get lots of love and abuse and they still look fresh! For this wall feature we wanted a sandy texture so we selected an eggshell finish and added baking soda to the paint. We couldn't be happier with the end result!

Now if you need to remove this for any reason, it just lifts off like a canvas painting!

A lot of our designs incorporate pieces we already have or can repurpose to stay within budget. For this particular project, we reused the existing modern, dark mantle in the space.

We covered it in foam insulation board, cut out an arch opening, and finished it with a faux stone veneer and Venetian smear technique. Troweling the plaster to achieve a smooth finish with just enough texture adds subtle character. Then, we layered darker and lighter tones of paint and smudged them to create depth, giving the stone a natural, hand-crafted feel.

The result is the perfect blend of warmth and contemporary elegance.
