This was so much fun! All finished now and handed in- just took me a while to post! Post industrial- post punk inspired heritage corset as part of the Corset Revival project. Not totally off map compared to my design at the start, the materials definitely affected what I did and what ended up happening, the detachable cowl piece was a last minute addition as I hated I'd not managed to use all the dyed scrim on the corset itself, then it was time to add the hard wear- you can't go wrong with a stud can ya? !#corsetrevivalproject with @circularfashionincubator and @drvintagefashionesther WestYorks postpunk, post industrial vibes! #sustainablefashion#postpunk#postindustrial#convertedcloset by @maybmakes

This is the bit I out off for so long, partly because I wasn’t sure if my machine could handle it, partly because I got the fear! But it went pretty smooth! Lots of snail speed sewing and some just stopping and turning the handle too, but it is coming together, all the documenting the process helped me retrace the steps and it’s looking pretty good! Next bit is the really fun part, adding all the bits of scrap left over and building up some areas to add textural and sculptural elements- this is where it goes off map!#corsetrevivalproject with @circularfashionincubator and @drvintagefashionesther WestYorks postpunk, post industrial vibes! #sustainablefashion#postpunk#postindustrial#convertedcloset by @maybmakes

It’s still wet and stormy here, but the has begun! It’s always terrifying taking things apart, but as a totally self-trained maker this is often the best way to understand a garment’s construction (although it is always terrifying!) top tips for deconstruction if you want to reconstruct later, document every step-photos or quick notes and sketches, number these or use dates to retain the sequence, as it’s easy to forgot later. Deconstruction can also be hard on your hands, so use tools and protect hands wear possible and take breaks! I also threw in a pic of the dyed fabric ready to go so I can keep the faith and keep the vision for the reconstruction as this bit can be hard and long! Here’s the dyed fabrics-I can’t get over how good they look, and against the westyorshire wuthering heights styles sky we had on Sunday(Sunday a few weeks ago only just posting now!) They are dry now, so I’ll give them an iron and then the fun begins! This was my Sunday morning, in a happy place I’d forgotten I had, I went full mad scientist (we had watched Frankenstein the night before!) and set up all the dyes, to see how they took to the different fabrics, samples took a while, but so fun and so worth it to select the colours I want to compliment some of the vintage fabric that I want to showcase on the corset’s panels. Made a big swatch page of all the samples so I could decide which dyes to use for each fabric-fun!
