If you're cold, they're... probably happy as a clam 😆 snow hippos are built for this after all. We couldn't let a once in a childhood opportunity to sled down the giant hill that is our street during the storm, we made it out just before the snowplow came and ruined the fun. I hope everyone else is finding some joy in the aftermath of the storm. by @mayfairmistress

In an ultimate display of motherly devotion, I set aside my inner control freak and let the kid pick out his own kitten. The universe rewarded this altruistic act by sending the kitten I was in love with rocketing across the room and into his arms. So now we have Samus. She's a polydactyl. She's perfection, but I'm sure my opinion on that will change when her inner kitten mayhem is unleashed 😆 by @mayfairmistress

It's been a quiet year as far as Instagram is concerned as I have been dealing with health stuff. Things have been happening, albeit slowly as I figure out how to pace myself, which is immensely difficult for me. Instead of tackling big projects I've been working through small things, one of which was trying to find the mental energy to open up the last two boxes from my grandparents' estate.

When I was there in person last year a number of things I hoped to find were gone and I left feeling very defeated. Much to my surprise the last box that was sent to me later had some of what was missing, including these gorgeous pastels. My grandparents were artists, rockhounds and jewelers, and the box also had some of the bolo ties my grandfather made for himself. The last thing in the box was one I'd never seen, an agate with a natural white wolf that was revealed when he sliced and polished it. Given that I have a white wolf of my own now (my malamute Athansor), this last gift from the universe left me in tears, and gave me a little bit of hope for the new year... by @mayfairmistress

I finally decided to revisit storm windows (last night's howling winds were very convincing), only to discover no one local will order or install them anymore. Allegheny Millworks said they could order, but wouldn't install unless I'm also having them install new windows with the storm windows which is both hilarious and confusing. Anyway, if anyone has any leads on someone who will order and install good quality aluminum storms here in Pittsburgh I'm all ears (at least until the frostbite gets them.... by @mayfairmistress
