Full Spectrum Doula 🤱🏽 | Perinatal Health Worker 🤎
POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED
Added 2 new books to my library 📚 School officially started this week and to be honest week 1 was HEAVY. A lot of readings, reports, and multiple hour long lectures 😩

I felt super overwhelmed this week, but I had to remember my WHY (I talked about this in an assignment post this week). I knew this work wouldn’t be easy, so I knew ahead of time I really have to lock in over these next 16 weeks. 🙂‍↕️

What are some ways you stay grounded and cope with burnout when the workload gets overwhelming? Let me know in the comments!

Books:
1. The Birth Partner 16th edition
2. The Doula Book 3rd edition

Pregnant & not sure what to ask at your appointments? 🤰🏾🤎

You are allowed to ask questions. You are allowed to understand what’s happening with YOUR body and YOUR baby. And you are allowed to take your time before agreeing to something when it’s not an emergency.

Some questions to consider asking your provider:

✨ Why are you recommending this?
✨ What are the benefits and risks?
✨ What are my options?
✨ What happens if I wait?

Advocating for yourself starts with being informed. Your questions matter. Your voice matters. 🗣️🤎

Save this Reel for your next prenatal appointment & send it to a pregnant mama who needs this reminder!

So, I started collecting books on pregnancy, birth, postpartum care, advocacy, and the overall birth-worker experience. 🤎

I’m always looking to learn more, so I want to hear from the doulas, midwives, birth workers, parents, and anyone else in the birth community:

📖 What books do you recommend every aspiring doula or birth worker read?

What book taught you something you still use in your work today?
What book changed the way you think about pregnancy, birth, or the postpartum experience?
And what’s a book you think every new doula should have on their shelf?

Drop your recommendations in the comments! 👇🏾 I’m building a bookshelf full of knowledge, wisdom, and different perspectives. 🫶🏾

Becoming a doula isn’t just about being present for birth—it’s about continuously learning, growing, and preparing myself to serve families to the best of my ability.

This weekend, I’m stepping outside of my comfort zone and adding Neonatal Resuscitation training to my toolbox. 🩺

I know that as a doula, my role is not to provide medical care or replace the medical team. But I do believe there is power in being educated, prepared, and able to remain calm and supportive when the unexpected happens.

I’m committed to becoming the kind of doula who never stops learning. 🤎

Doula or midwife? What’s the difference? 🤎

One of the biggest misconceptions I hear is that doulas and midwives do the same thing. While we can both play an important role in your birth experience, our roles are very different.

Your birth team should be built around what makes you feel informed, supported, respected, and empowered.

A midwife provides clinical care.
A doula provides continuous emotional, physical, and informational support.

And when those two roles work together? ✨ It can create such a beautiful support system for you and your family.

As I continue my journey into birth work, I want to help more women understand their options and feel confident about the people they choose to have in their birth space.

Knowledge is power. Your birth. Your voice. Your choices. 🤎

Save this for later and send it to someone who needs to know the difference!

I’m stepping into a new chapter — learning, growing, advocating, and preparing to become the birth worker I’ve always felt called to be. 🤎

As a Black woman and a mother, my own birth experience opened my eyes to how important it is for women to feel heard, respected, informed, and supported during pregnancy and childbirth.

This page is where I’ll share the journey — the lessons, the wins, the challenges, the behind-the-scenes, and everything I’m learning along the way. 🫶🏾

I’m just getting started… but I already know this journey is bigger than me. 🤎

Welcome to Mayg’s Doula Diary. 🌿✨

✨ A New Chapter Begins ✨

I’m so excited to finally share this with you…

I’m beginning my journey to becoming a full spectrum doula, and my heart couldn’t be more full.

This calling was born from my own pregnancy and birth experience. I learned firsthand how powerful it is to feel informed, supported, and truly heard throughout pregnancy, labor, birth, and postpartum. That experience ignited a passion in me to help other women feel empowered as they bring life into the world.

As a future doula, my mission is to provide compassionate, evidence-based support while helping women advocate for themselves, make informed decisions, and feel confident in their birth experiences. Every mother deserves to feel seen, respected, and supported.

This page will be a space where I’ll share:
🤎 My journey to becoming a doula
🤎 Birth education and resources
🤎 Pregnancy and postpartum tips
🤎 Encouragement and empowerment
🤎 Honest conversations about maternal health and birth

Whether you’re expecting, hoping to become a parent one day, or simply here to support this journey—welcome. Thank you for being here.

I’m just getting started, and I can’t wait to grow, learn, and serve my community.

Here’s to supporting births, empowering families, and changing birth stories—one mama at a time. 🤎✨
