I was born and grew up in Haiti, surrounded by political instability, earthquakes, fear, insecurity, and pain.
I learned to survive long before I learned how to heal.

I carried what I witnessed,
what I felt,
and what I couldn’t yet understand.

I found ways to cope with weed, nicotine, sex, toughness, power, anger, people-pleasing, anything that offered a moment of relief.

Then I recognized the cycle: pain, craving, relief, regret, promises, and repeat.

I’m learning I don’t have to run from my pain to be free of it.
I can face it.
I can understand it.
I can heal, one step at a time.

This isn’t the end of my story.

This is my breakthrough.

I vividly remember watching the legend on my old black-and-white TV in the small town of Okap in 🇭🇹

The uncertainty of when the electricity would be cut off only added to the magic of those moments.

Now, here we are, witnessing it all in person. @miketyson by @maykipri
