The American ideal of feminine domesticity, historically known as the Cult of Domesticity or Cult of True Womanhood, was a 19th-century value system that defined a woman’s role inside the private sphere of the home. It centered on four core virtues: piety, purity, submissiveness, and domesticity.Core Virtues of the “True Woman”Piety: Religious devotion was seen as a natural female trait meant to guide the family’s moral compass.Purity: Sexual chastity and innocence were heavily guarded requirements for social standing.Submissiveness: Women were expected to be obedient and passive under male authority.Domesticity: Managing the household, sewing, cooking, and raising children were viewed as natural, uplifting duties.Historical Context and EvolutionIndustrial Revolution Shift: As work moved outside the family farm and into factories, a rigid divide grew between the public sphere (male work/politics) and the private sphere (female home life).Class and Race Limits: This ideal mostly applied to middle-class and upper-class white women. Working-class, immigrant, and enslaved women had to work outside the home for survival, entirely excluded from this standard. #comedy #humor by @maymesfin

I Love NY for real. Around when we first came to New o the US from Ethiopia, my mom and I lived in the Bronx in Fordam Road. So am I technically a New Yorker? Argue about it in the comments if you want to. by @maymesfin
