New Spanish Prisoners single is out now!

A little background - this song started over ten years ago, back when I lived in Brooklyn, NY. Most of the song was written but I never felt like I had all the final details right. My bandmate Mike and I worked on a version of it together when we wrote our last album Don’t It Sting back in 2023. That version was a bit more minimal and focused on the lyrics. The bulk of it was performed together live in Mike’s studio, but I had always felt like the original version was still lurking somewhere in the shadows.

After Don’t It Sting came out, I kept working on another version of Kiss in the Dark, replete with more vocals and layers and a bridge section that wasn’t in the album version. Fast forward to 2026 and I came across a competition Mix With the Masters was holding. The winning song would be mixed live by legendary producer / mixer Tony Hoffer. Tony has worked with some of my all time favorite artists - Beck, M83, Belle and Sebastian, and many others. I submitted this alternate version of Kiss in the Dark, and lo and behold, it was chosen to be mixed by Tony.

That version of the song, now called Kiss in the Dark (Night Bliss Version) is what you are finally hearing today, completed more than ten years after its genesis. Hope you enjoy, thanks for listening <3

Hi all,

Some of you may know from me my solo music but some of you may know me from Spanish Prisoners, a band I started many, many years ago in Columbus, Ohio. Very proud and excited to say that today a new album by Spanish Prisoners, Don’t It Sting, is finally out in the world. You can listen on our Bandcamp page (link in bio) or on the streaming service of your choice.

I made this album with my longtime bandmate and bud Michael DiSanto, who also records as @tunnelspeeches. We recorded it in the dead of winter in his Brooklyn studio where there was no heat (!!) and then here at my studio in LA.

There are also limited edition CD's available to order if you still prefer that way of listening. They look fantastic (if I may say so myself) and also come with the digital download of the album. If you'd like one, don't wait, as there aren't a ton of copies left already.

Thanks for listening to our little corner of the world. I’m really, really proud of this album.

Much love! taken in Los Angeles, California by @maymindmusic

Life Inside a Bell, my new album with @jonnatchez, is finally out today and streaming on all services. There are also limited edition CDs available via my #Bandcamp page that should be shipped out in a few days. Thanks to those who have already pre-ordered a copy.

This album started out as something else. It wasn’t an album at all. It was really just an excuse to hang out, turn on my drum machines, jam with someone who I admired greatly and was quickly becoming a good friend, and mourn the passing of my best friend, my dog Ezra.

Working through that grief was a major part of these recordings. The chemistry I felt with Jon was another; as we didn’t really talk much before setting up and jamming. We seemed to have a pretty instant musical connection that I was so excited to discover. This was pre-covid days, and I think I took being in a small room with another musician for granted back then.

Recording this album was some of my favorite music-making times of my whole life. It’s the first time in a long while that I recorded a ripping guitar solo. It’s the first time in a long while that I spent a good deal of care on the mixing (and the mastering, and the cover art, and the CD manufacturing…)

I hope some of you reading this will take the time to listen to this album front to back, without any distractions, perhaps driving down an empty road somewhere. Or sitting at home, with nothing but candles on. I structured it like a journey, and even though there are only four tracks, I think it goes a lot of places.

Thanks to everyone listening, thanks to my wife Allie for the endless support and encouragement, but mostly thanks to Jon. It was a real treat making this album with you, my bud!

Also its Bandcamp Friday so any support you give goes straight to myself and Jon, and it does mean a lot.

Love!

My new album, June, is finally out today.

This album has been seven years in the making. So glad that you can all hear the whole thing in its entirety. So many hours of work, so much blood, sweat, and tears. if you know, you know. if this all sounds effortless, even better.

Thank you to every single soul listening, commenting, sharing, loving, and living to my music. It means the world to me.

June is available for streaming/purchasing at all fine digital retailers, my personal favorite being @bandcamp

If you'd like a copy on vinyl, there are still some on my Bandcamp page available for ordering.

Live shows, more DJing, more albums and music, all coming from me in 2022. Thanks for being here with me for this part of the journey, friends. It's just beginning.

This pandemic is far from over; many are still struggling with very uncertain futures ahead of them.

The Remote Rhythms Compilation @atlanticrhythms put together a few weeks ago has already raised nearly $3000, half of which has gone to @nokidhungry and half to @getusppe. Please consider downloading and donating if you can; the amount of talent that has donated their time and efforts is huge. I had been saving the track I contributed “Brother, It’s Time” but getting it out into the world at this moment felt more imperative than any future plans.

Thanks to @s_peoples for his organization efforts, to @nickapice for the compilation art, and to @a.m.gordon for her work with this video. Be kind to one another out there, don’t forget your masks! (Download link in bio!) taken in Los Angeles, California by @maymindmusic

Very very stoked to say my new album ‘Contoured Euphoria’ is now out on @tigerbeat6. Limited edition tapes are coming soon as well!

This album has been done for a while and represents the third part of a trilogy of exploratory home recordings that started with ‘Illumina’ (Umor Rex) and ‘Cheap Storage’ (Atlantic Rhythms). Most of these tracks were made bleary-eyed, with no agenda, simply seeking to create a world to escape into that offered a solace from the daily horrors we have been living with in this day and age.
Recorded, mixed, and mastered by me; cover art by my brother @alex_maymind. Thank you to @miis_g for all of the reasons. Thanks to you for listening and enjoy (link in bio) 😚 taken in Los Angeles, California by @maymindmusic
