Filipinos don’t magically “behave better” abroad. They just enter a system where good behavior finally makes sense.

In the Philippines, people call it being pasaway (unruly). Abroad, they call it being “disciplined.” It is the same Filipino, but in a different environment and a different survival strategy.

When a system is unstable, people adapt to instability. When a system is predictable, people adapt to predictability. It’s not personality, and it’s not culture. It’s survival.

In a place where rules are flexible, consequences are inconsistent, and shortcuts often win, you learn diskarte (resourcefulness), palusot (excuses), pakisama (conforming), and bahala na (fatalism). You learn them because that is what works.

But when that same Filipino lands in a country where rules are strictly enforced, time is respected, systems function, and hard work actually leads somewhere, they suddenly look “disciplined.” They didn't change; the rules of survival did.

Filipinos didn’t become better abroad. They became less stressed, less threatened, and finally able to step out of survival mode.
They were always good. Always capable. Always disciplined. The difference is simple: the environment finally rewarded the good that was already there. by @mayoalday07

Happy 35th Anniversary! MAMA & DIDO Thirty five years together is an incredible milestone, and we are so proud to celebrate it with you today.
Looking back, I saw we started from small house, small dream, and we know how incredibly hard you both worked to raise 4 of us. You gave up so much of your own time and energy to ensure we had everything we needed, and we see that sacrifice clearly now. Were you perfect parents? No one is, and you’d probably be the first to say it! But you always gave us your absolute best, and you provided a loving, supportive home where we could grow. That means more to us than anything.
Thank you for every sacrifice, every late night, and every bit of support you’ve given us over the years. We pray that you have many more beautiful years together, full of good health, deep laughter, and endless blessings. We love you both so much! Big thank you to everyone for the birthday love! Huge shoutout to my amazing friends, family, and my incredible wife for making the day special.
No matter what challenges or crazy moments life throws at us, keeping a positive mindset is the only way forward. I'm incredibly excited for what’s next and focusing entirely on good vibes and positive outcomes.
