Milwaukee has a total budget of $2.07 billion and I want you to help me decide how to spend it. However, there are a few things you should know about first: how the budget works, what the real numbers we are working with are, and the rules we need to abide by.

Through watching this video, I want you to know what I know, and then, I want your feedback. Six questions and two minutes of your time.

Go to Engage.Milwaukee.gov/budget or to the Linktree in my bio to tell me what you want the 2027 budget to look like. taken in Milwaukee, Wisconsin by @mayorofmilwaukee

The Quarterly Crime Statistics press conference is one way my administration maintains our commitment to transparency. It’s vital information that can help shape our approach to public safety. Yesterday, it told us that we are making progress.

In 2026 compared to 2025 to date we seen that work reflected. Part I crimes are down by 4 percent. Fatal crashes are down 21 percent. Clearance rate, as in the percentage of reported crimes solved, is at 88 percent for homicide.

We still have work to be done. But through community partnership and cooperation, we are improving. Thank you to the city leaders who joined me yesterday, the first responders and law enforcement, the District Attorneys Office, the City’s Department of Community Wellness and Safety and each partner that is working to make our city a safer place. Next line.

Visit the Milwaukee Police Departments website at Milwaukee.gov/police to access their interactive database on crime statistics in the City of Milwaukee, and more information. Today was The Fourth Annual Emergency Gun Violence Summit, hosted by the 80% Coalition and Forward Latino—the largest gun violence prevention event in Wisconsin.

To those that attended, I want to give my deepest gratitude. You are the pioneers of solutions and vessels of action in the community. Gun violence is devastating and it cannot be overcome alone. It takes everyone; first responders, faith-based organizations, non-profits, youth, educational institutions—everyone. It is urgent in our city, our state, our nation. So, we will not stop advocating for gun reform legislation from our state and federal legislation and we will not stand idly by in our communities. We will continue this fight, together. Today, on Indigenous Peoples’ Day, we pause to honor the Indigenous peoples whose presence, histories, and cultures are woven into the very fabric of Milwaukee.

Their legacy is not confined to the past. It is living and breathing in our communities, flowing through our waters, and shaping our present and future.

Even the name Milwaukee reflects the languages and cultural traditions of the Indigenous peoples who first stewarded this land, often interpreted as “gathering place by the water” and associated with “good land.”

Today, we are connected by this place and its name. May we honor that connection by recognizing the first stewards of this land, learning from their histories, and carrying their enduring legacy forward. taken in Milwaukee, Wisconsin by @mayorofmilwaukee

We cut the ribbon today at Northwoods Apartment in the Harambee neighborhood after a multi-million dollar renovation. Local and state governments had a hand in bringing new life to this 72 unit development. Alderwoman Milele Coggs and city departments played important roles in making this happen. It's great news for the Milwaukee residents who live here. by @mayorofmilwaukee

Too often, landlords neglect their properties and that neglect can create safety issues. The files I signed today, will give inspectors from the Department of Neighborhood Services an additional tool to promote safety. In a designated area, inspectors can knock on the door of a residential property and ask the tenant if they can proactively inspect for habitability violations. A formal complaint is not required, and this takes the burden and risk associated with reporting off the shoulders of renters.

State law has limited the ability of our inspectors to do this type of safety investigations. There is one exception, and that is the policy we are accessing today.

In a designated neighborhood with chronic problems, the city can more actively look for violations now. Unsafe electrical issues, serious plumbing problems, or lead paint dangers will be able to be identified earlier.

With community support and neighborhoods groups assistance, we are putting attention where it is needed deeply, in the Uptown Neighborhood, based on data showing the highest levels of habitability complaints in that our city.

This initiative runs on the passion of the community. I must thank Reclaiming Our Neighborhoods for their support and Alderman Stamper who made these files possible through his sponsorship. I look forward to the collaboration between the community and city, helping neighbor’s achieve the safe home conditions every renter deserves. taken in Milwaukee City Hall by @mayorofmilwaukee
