Bittersweet note… an original Tribeca family member has past at 95. World renowned Saxophonist and Jazz musician Sonny Rollins. I grew up with him as a friendly cool and supremely jazzy neighbor. It wasn’t until I was in the elevator and my mom told him we were listening to his song “old cowhand”, that I realized who he was. After that I spoke to him about music in our comings and goings, I was just starting to play the Sax myself. In recent years we spoke about the neighborhood changes. Although he could certainly afford the gentrification wave he wasn’t a big fan of it in Tribeca and cherished the once vibrant music and art scene that now appears to be long gone. Those who knew, knew; he would play in Duane street park or Washington market park and made Tribeca a vibe. RIP OG Tribeca family … IPN. taken in Tribeca, New York City by @mayoroftribeca

Survivor and still energized … wouldn’t believe her age ..she is one of the most solid individuals that held down the tribe many a time. She has her own style and a swag all her own and nobody can’t take that away from her and us 🔺. Nothing but respect and love, she believed in me as a child, looked out for my mother growing up, my brother, my neighbors, listen she would look out for half the 30th floor at times 💎🫡. Takes a real G to look out the way she did, growing up seeing men never hold their own like this woman!!! and She still be benevolent at all times. by @mayoroftribeca
