Inspired by heirloom lace, embroidered linens, and crocheted textiles passed down through generations, Mayra Tuncel’s Put my Idle Hands to Work examines the relationship between beauty, labor, domesticity, and power. Architectural lace, leather shaped into delicate ornament, and sculptural silhouettes create a dialogue between protection and exposure, restriction and freedom. Drawing from Turkish craft traditions while embracing a contemporary perspective, the collection challenges inherited ideas of femininity and transforms familiar textiles into expressions of resilience, autonomy, and choice, celebrating the freedom to define how women reveal, conceal, adorn, and exist.
