𝕀𝕟 𝕥𝕙𝕖 𝕨𝕠𝕣𝕕𝕤 𝕠𝕗 𝕥𝕙𝕖 𝕝𝕠𝕧𝕖𝕝𝕪 𝕀𝕤𝕤𝕒 ℝ𝕒𝕖, “𝕀 𝕨𝕒𝕟𝕥 𝕥𝕠 𝕤𝕥𝕒𝕣𝕥 𝕠𝕗𝕗 𝕓𝕪 𝕥𝕙𝕒𝕟𝕜𝕚𝕟𝕘 𝕞𝕖.” ♡

Navigating the experience of pursuing higher education as a first-generation college student has been no easy task. I do not believe in many things, but I am most thankful for the unwavering faith I have invested in myself to see it through, and I am forever grateful for how far that faith will help me continue to go.

Further, I would like to express gratitude for my history and heritage as a Black American. To credit New Orleans artist and activist Bradan “BMike” Odoms, I must say, “I am my ancestors’ wildest dreams.” @bmike2c

Millions may graduate at the end of each semester, but THIS graduation is special because it is still a very NEW concept for young Black people, most notably young Black women, to receive a quality education, let alone seek higher education. THIS graduation is a celebration of all the hard-working Black men and women who fought for the rights that have allowed me a path, though unbeaten, to pursue this opportunity.

In just 70 years since gaining the right to equal education through Brown v. Board in 1954, Black men and women have increasingly risen to the occasion of doing what was once unimaginable. I am incredibly proud to be part of a generation of the most educated trailblazing Black men and women.

My hopes as a future educator are that, in the NEAR future, it will be the norm rather than an anomaly for Black students to continue to receive a quality education. I can only hope to have smoothed out the pavement to make way for other young Black students like myself to do just that! #GoNoles🍢🏹 #Classof2024 #FirstGeneration #dreamon🌟 #futureeducator
