Afro Visionary Movie Nights Presents: 21 Year Old Conversation

Join us for an immersive evening of cinema and dialogue as we explore the “craft” of the South African actor.
This isn’t just a movie night; it’s an investigation into the soul of our industry. Directed by Diliza Moabi, the documentary series 21 Year Old Conversation seeks to demystify the art of acting, moving beyond the screen to delve into the minds and hearts of the people behind the characters.

Through a unique visual approach that combines intimate group conversations with creative re-enactments, the film illustrates the incredible depth, range, and nuances of the art. We explore whether the stories we tell are a true reflection of who we are as a people and a country.

Journey through the evolution of acting in South Africa, from the technical demands of the stage to the historical struggles of Black actors during the apartheid-era “Bantu film industry”.
Witness a “Babel of contradictory opinions” from a powerhouse cast including John Kani, Connie Chiume, Jerry Mofokeng, Mary Twala, Nomhle Nkonyeni, and many more.

Following the screening, we will host an intimate Q&A session with the director. This is a unique opportunity to gain insight into Moabi’s creative process, the themes explored in the film, and the inspiration behind this ambitious project.
Arrive early to enjoy the amenities at The Bioscope before we settle in for the main feature.

We are excited to announce that MazwiDaDj will be behind the decks for the night. Known for his immersive sets that journey through House, old-school Hip Hop, and R&B, Mazwi brings a nostalgic yet fresh energy that is guaranteed to keep the vibe high. As a performer dedicated to creating inclusive and joyful spaces, he is the perfect curator to round off this cultural experience.
