They'd play this song to calm the patients at curfew. And then have them listen to the cries of their neighbors getting changed forever. An anonymous source was kind enough to provide photos of the setting once upon a time. This is a fraction of what they gave me. More reasons why I'm drawn to the type of horror where you barely have to make stuff up. Hoepfully you'll visit. And my book is kind of like a brochure. It's in my linktree 👻🌴💊 I love you. #horror #sike #horrorbook #mbgreen #camarillo taken in CSU Channel Islands by @mbgreenwriter

Friends! 'Tis the season! Motorskin is now re-released, now with more edge, and available in way more places. 🪦♻️💐 Check my linktree in my bio :) You can get it on Amazon if that's most convenient, but if you want to use a different platform for whatever reason, you can find it at pretty much any online retailer. Probably easier to stick the the big ones. B&N, bookshop.org, etc. And of course, the lovely @druhuf did their thing and made it pop like a corpse with makeup. BTW, if you've been watching Ed Gein in the latest season of Monster on Netflix, this book is all about skinning and turning people into things of value. Except here, it's a thriving business. 🩸🧪🪒 Funeral homes. Biker gangs. Tattooing. Corpses. Embalming. Fashion. Los Angeles. Ojai. Handbag. 🌸💀🪦⚰️👜 Sounds fun, right? Motorskin is out now, print & ebook :) [Allow 1-2 days for the print version to show up] #transgressiveficiton #horror #motorskin #horrorbook #bodyhorror #thriller #release #Bookstagram #bookcover #funeral #death #art #read #tattoo #creativity #horrorauthor #805 #Ojai #fashion #readscarybooks #mustread #october #octoberreads #halloween #spookyseason by @mbgreenwriter

One of my favorite things about SIKE has been seeing local readers recognize the setting.👻 @finalgirl.horror gave the book 5 stars and picked up on exactly what I hoped an 805 reader would notice: that SIKE is set in a fictionalized version of the psychiatric hospital that once occupied the site of what is now CSU Channel Islands. 🌴🐬 But this really isn't a story about a generic haunted asylum. It's about a psych nurse who doesn't think he's paid enough to deal with what he does. 😈 Psychological horror. Medical horror. Dark humor. Ventura County. It's got all those. 💊🧠 Thank you, Marina, for reading and sharing the book! #VenturaCounty #Camarillo #PsychologicalHorror #HorrorBooks #HorrorBookstagram taken in Camarillo, California by @mbgreenwriter

Before it was CSU Channel Islands, it was Camarillo State Hospital. For much of the 20th century, the site was home to a psychiatric hospital in Ventura County. Grim history, that place. And I first encountered that history in 2018, when I was at CSUCI for orientation. I remember walking through the campus and noticing the bars over the windows. The old hospital layout. The hallways. The architecture. Everyone knew what had been there. The faculty doesn’t really like to talk about it.  I looked around and thought, holy shit. And then I started imagining a story. What would it be like to work in a psychiatric hospital in the 90s? What would happen if the person losing his mind was one of the people responsible for caring for everyone else? And here we are. Dominic Crowe is a psychiatric nurse working in a fictionalized version of that setting. His patients aren't the only ones losing touch. SIKE is psychological horror rooted in Ventura County, psychiatric nursing, medical deterioration, dark humor, and the increasingly unstable space between reality and delusion. The place was real. The story is fiction. Have you ever walked through a place with a history that made you imagine a scary story? #Camarillo #VenturaCounty #Horrorbooks #CamarilloStateHospital #CSUChannelIslands Cover art: @druhuff taken in CSU Channel Islands by @mbgreenwriter

Dominic Crowe is a psychiatric nurse in 1990s Ventura County. He knows what psychosis looks like. He knows what hallucinations look like. He knows what happens when life starts falling apart. The problem is that it's happening to him. SIKE is a psychological horror novel about illness, obsession, burnout, hallucination, and the increasingly unstable space between what Dominic sees and what's actually there. Set inside a fictionalized version of the psychiatric hospital that once occupied what is now CSU Channel Islands. For readers who like their horror inside the head. “Have you read SIKE?” #psychologicalHorror #horrorBooks #horrorbookstagram #medicalHorror #CaliforniaHorror Cover art: @druhuf taken in CSU Channel Islands by @mbgreenwriter
