I’m so proud to have called you my grandmother. Thank you for being my guiding light, my listening ear, and such a sweet and beautiful soul.

Until we meet again, Grandmom. My love eternal. ♥️ taken in Annapolis, Maryland by @mbrave13

@blackandbravewrestling began in 2014 as a passion project of mine. Truthfully though, its origin story has roots in the early 2000s when my partner @mbrave13 and I discovered and fell in love with independent wrestling in the Midwest.

When I began to seek local training in autumn of 2004, the region was flooded with nothing but con artists and carnies. Fortunately, Danny Daniels was preparing to become one of those carnies when I forced him to take my money in exchange for wrestling training.

I kidnapped Marek and a couple other cats, jammed ‘em into my Corsica, and we schlepped up to Chicago a few times a week. We trained. The other cats quit. Eventually we made some towns, and the rest is history…

Fast forward a decade, I had moved back to Iowa after my WWE debut and though plenty was different, one thing that was the same was the lack of reputable wrestling schooling in the Midwest. I wanted to change that so I became that change.

I coerced Marek out of his day job and we dove in headfirst, but we weren’t alone, and the support came in clutch, too. From my incredible mom handling the student housing and back end brass tacks, to the grads and friends who’ve come on board as assistants or fitness coaches, we’ve had so much help along the way. I dreamt of a school, I never imagined we’d build a community.

Born between a sense of gratitude for where I’ve come and the dreams that helped me grow, this community is something I’m immensely proud of.

Over the next few months, I want to use this platform to spotlight that community and showcase the humans that enrich it.

The BXB graduates you’ll be introduced to are an asset to any show they’re on. They are the future of the industry. taken in Black and Brave Wrestling Academy by @mbrave13

In 2022, I was able to get back in the ring for the first time in a long while. What made this go around special was the fact that my children got to watch me perform in person -- my youngest, for the first time ever.

The passing of time puts things into perspective. Make the most of every opportunity you're given. You never know when it all can be taken away.

In 2021, I placed importance on taking care of myself. Gonna keep that going in 2022.
