The Freeride competition team had two different Futures tour events this past month, one at Sugar bowl Resort in Tahoe and the other at Park City Mountain resort in Utah. These events were mainly attended by our traveling snowboard athletes. The Sugar Bowl event was challenging with very little practice due to weather conditions, but the athletes persevered and put down some good runs. We had some great results in Park City. Henry Linn came in 12th and Wyatt McCabe came in 15th out of 56 men. Conditions were variable going from hard ice to super slush but everyone did great and put down their best runs. Happy to see smiles from the trip. by @mbsef.freeride

Special visitor alert! Last weekend Olympian and MBSEF Alumn @hunterhess10 graciously spent some time with over a hundred of our Alpine and Freeride athletes. Hunter helped give out end of season awards to our Mini World Cuppers, helped kick off our Devo Freeride comp, and signed countless helmets and accessories. What a gift and an inspiration! This past month the Freeride Devo team has continued focusing on improving on fundamentals and building strong foundations for well-rounded skiers and riders. Our sessions so far, have tackled and revisited key concepts, including: Neutral stance and body alignment, Carving, Ollie, nollie, and pop, switch riding and butters, spins and rotations, straight airs, grabs, and shifties, and lately powder and tree riding!Recent snow has made training even more exciting, and with consistent snowfall in the forecast, we’ve been taking advantage of access to fun and challenging terrain. These conditions are allowing our athletes to apply skills across both natural terrain and freestyle features, helping them gain confidence, strength, and style on any slope across the mountain. by @mbsef.freeride

The MBSEF Big Mountain team is in the midst of competition season. In late January, ten of our more experienced athletes went to Jackson Hole, WY for the IFSA 3* national competition.Our athletes competed with the best in North America. U15 Skier Josiah Mather ended up in 8th place overall, with an 11th place finish in qualifiers and a 5th in finals, an incredible performance. U15 Snowboarder Sierra Beckerley had a great run in finals, with a 2nd place finish.Twenty-nine of our Big Mountain athletes competed in the Mt. Hood Meadows 2* regional event. U12 Boys skier Hunter Michelsen took first place, and U12 Girls skier Poppy LaPoint landed in second place. U15 skier Teo Bergstrom took home first with eight MBSEF U15 skiers landing in the top 10. In early February Piper Johnson and Coach Jack went out to Quebec City, Quebec for a week of competitions. The contest was part of the NORAM Series and was the Stoneham StepUp Tour stop. The contest had three disciplines which Piper competed in. Piper competed in slopestyle, big air, and rail jam. The events were held at Stoneham Mountain Resort which is about 30 minutes outside of the city. This was her first time competing in a big air contest. She put down clean runs in all of the events and will be heading to Junior Worlds in Calgary to compete in the rail jam there. Just last week, Coach Jack travelled with athletes Braydon Freeman and Piper Johnson to Copper, CO for a Futures Tour Slopestyle stop. MBSEF alumni’s Kainoa Pyle, Kellen Rather, and Henry Sanderson stayed with the team as they made the trip over from the University of Utah. Henry Sanderson took 1st place in the Men’s Slopestyle event and Piper Johnson got 2nd in the Women’s Slopestyle event.
