3 common hand-tied mistakes I see all the time 👀

A beautiful install isn’t just about getting the hair in …. it’s about creating a foundation that protects the natural hair and wears well between appointments.

A few things I’m always paying attention to:

✨ Too much weight — more hair doesn’t automatically mean a better result. The amount of extension hair should be balanced with what the client’s natural hair can safely support.

✨ Overloading your beads/wefts — especially on finer hair. Your foundation should feel intentional, lightweight + secure, not bulky.

✨ Putting too much weight on your corners — those little details matter. Keeping your corners clean and supported helps the row lay flatter, feel more comfortable + grow out beautifully.

The goal is always the same: flat, secure, comfortable + healthy. 🤌🏼

COLOR PLACEMENT IS KEY 🔑

You can have the cleanest install, the flattest rows, and the best cut + blend…

But if the color placement is off, you’re still going to see the extensions.

When I’m planning an extension install, I put my colorist hat on first. 🎨

I’m looking at:
• Where do the highlights naturally live?
• Where does the depth live?
• Where does the client’s natural color start to blend?
• Where does that dimension need to continue through the extensions?

Because the goal isn’t just to “match the hair.”

The goal is to continue the client’s existing color story through the extensions.

Sometimes that means mixing multiple colors.
Sometimes it means strategically placing lighter or darker wefts in specific areas.

Color + placement + installation all have to work together.

That intentional approach is a huge part of what I teach inside The MBWay Method™ — because a seamless extension transformation starts long before you stitch your first row.
