Designing a home around the way people gather.
One of the most memorable features of this estate started with inspiration from Europe.
A red-brick pizza oven that’s also a fireplace designed to become another gathering place within the home.
And it’s just one piece of a much larger indoor-outdoor story.
The game room and entertainer’s bar open completely to the backyard, allowing the spaces to flow together for everything from intimate evenings to large-scale entertaining.
Inside, exposed beams continue throughout the home, adding warmth and visually connecting one space to the next.
The result is a home where the architecture doesn’t stop at the exterior walls. taken in Arcadia, Arizona by @mcandelariaarch

One of the best experiences of our Firenze leg of the Tour is the Morning Walk and we did two mornings this time!
.
One morning we did a loop through town in the early morning hours with no people and a trip to the Mercato Centrale and then the next morning up the hills for a panoramic view of Florence from the Piazza Michelangelo!
.
Best way to adjust the jet lag effect for sure and such a wonderful way to experience the city before all the crowds!

A couple weeks ago we were invited by my good friend Jimmy Walker to the Andrea Bocelli concert in Phoenix where we had front row center stage tickets and the honor of meeting maestro Bocelli and his wife Veronica Berti back stage!!
.
It was there where we were then invited to visit the Andrea Bocelli Foundation in Firenze which we did with our @candelariadesign Tour Italy travelers yesterday!
.
Wow - so amazing and so inspiring and we have something brewing for Scottsdale in 2027 - stay tuned!

The details an architect sees that you might not.

An architect will notice something about this home within seconds that most buyers probably wouldn’t.

There’s no grand staircase.
And that was completely intentional.
Instead, Mark Candelaria designed symmetrical staircases at opposite ends of the home, allowing the architecture to guide you through the spaces rather than interrupt them.

From the moment you enter, there’s movement. Your eye is drawn through the home, toward the outdoors and naturally into the entertainer’s bar.
The spaces continue to unfold from there, creating different places to gather throughout the evening before ultimately bringing everyone together in the kitchen.

It’s a design decision you might never think twice about but it completely changes the way the home lives. taken in Arcadia, Arizona by @mcandelariaarch

Laughter rests easily here, with a place for many hands and ideas, over a hearty butcher block island. The block is well-loved, etching stories and memories into the grooves after each meal preparation.

What goes into the design of a magnificent estate? In this 4 part series, I go Behind The Scenes with renowned architect, Mark Candelaria!

PART 1: Making nearly 13,000 square feet feel intimate

How do you make nearly 13,000 square feet feel intimate?

For architect Mark Candelaria, it starts with designing a room for how it feels not simply how impressive it looks.

When Mark designed this Exeter Blvd estate, scale was everything. Each room was intentionally designed around a comfortable, intimate scale, creating spaces that feel warm, inviting and meant to actually be lived in.
Because great architecture isn’t only about what you see.

It’s about what you feel when you walk through the door.

Over the next four parts, Mark is taking us behind the design of this extraordinary Arcadia estate sharing the details, decisions and intention you might otherwise not notice. taken in Arcadia, Arizona by @mcandelariaarch
