How is it October? 😱 Nights are getting even colder, the days are shorter, and there is a crispness to the air. Some flowers are winding down, and some are charging forwarded with many blooms. The dahlias are going crazy and Im trying to enjoy them as much as I can before the frost puts them to bed for anothwr season.

There are two more weekends at the @lewistonartisanfarmersmarket for the summer market in the park. So make sure you take time to come out and get the last of the blooms for 2026. by @mcbsfarm

Ooof its been a busy week so far!

The most important to most of you is that yes. Our Hickory snacks sticks are back in stock! We did an emergency run to our butcher and had more of them and the pepper garlic (we were down to our last 2 packs) and sausage (also down to just a few packs left) made to tide us over to our "official" butcher date at the end of October. We will have them at both markets this week and restocked at the farm markets asap.

In another fun farm stuff David and I actually made it home to eat dinner in our kitchen this week! Which is a huge accomplishment (running a small business is so much work!). It was still take out, and it was 930 at night, but gosh darn it we did it!

We also have all the perennials and iris thats ive been collecting all summer planted. That feels good to get done but it also showed me how easily I succumb to peer pressure.....I wasnt going to buy anymore iris this year, and then those pesky people we call friends kept showing me cool ones. So we add two (i know not one but two!) More rows. Listen folks. Take it from me. Just say no to your friends. They are bad influences 😄

However we still have tons and tons of plugs, and bulbs to plant, as well as moving around some established plants. So the work is far from over.

The sheep are all in their breeding groups finally and we will start lambing in January and hopefully be done by the end of February. We are very excited to see what lambs we will have as the lambs from this past spring I think are some of the best weve ever produced between conformation, temperament, and growth. Alas we still have goats to breed and unfortunately will have to push kidding season to middle of March which is kind of late for us (in my perfect world wed be done with new babies by March 1st)

Markets have been amazing and we cant thank you all enough for your support. We will be at both markets this weekend. Then next weekend is the big Lewiston Harvest & Hops festival where we will have our largest display of dried floral pumpkins to choose from, as well as our fresh flower make your own bouquets with tons of dahlias.

Until then, we will be harvesting and planting! by @mcbsfarm

Thank you so much to everyone who stopped my this weekend at market and all summer long. We may be going into fall but there is still plenty of time for fresh flowers, and local fruits and veggies.

This weekend we had a few inquiries about dried pumpkins and even about holiday wreaths! Yes we will have our dried floral pumpkins again this year, and yes we can do them for your parties, showers, and weddings. Holiday wreaths will also be available as we get closer to December.

Thank you so much for the continued support, the recipes, the plants, and the kind words.

See you all next weekend for Labor Day weekend. by @mcbsfarm

Do you like working outside? In the dirt and sunshine? Im looking for some planting (and maybe some weeding and harvesting) assistance this coming month.

Ive bought and had seeded more plugs and bulbs than i think i can handle. Perfect for someone needing flexibility in their schedule, or only available for a few hours here and there.

Must be ok with working in the dirt and weather. Mostly working on your own rows of planting. Planting 1000s of plugs is hard work being on your hands and knees. But i would so appreciate any assistance i can find.

**would be a great way to see what we are about if you think youd like to work next summer with us in the gardens*

Message if you are interested. by @mcbsfarm

Lambs due in five months.

It might sound easy and not a big deal that we put our rams in with the girls but this was months and years in the making.

When you figure the time it took to find rams from good farms with the qualities we need. Going out last year to Illinois to bring them home. Raising them for a year, getting their first lambs on the ground and evaluating them. And to think that the breeding taking place now is going to result in the lambs that fill the freezer and for sale in the 2028 market season. And yes I know some have a hard time wrapping their heads around the reality of how meat is grown and put into the freezer. But this is the reality of it. We have beautiful lovely sheep who produce beautiful and lovely lambs that we grow into beautiful and tasty lamb meat. And we put alot of time and effort into raising healthy and happy sheep for whatever time we have them.

This is farming, this is local farming happening in your community. Months and years of planning, working, waiting, and then if all the stars align and mother nature cooperates we have food.

Its crazy how much planning and time and work goes bringing food to the table. So remember your farmers who are planning already what they need to plant, or breed, or make in order to bring food to your table next year(s) all while still harvesting and raising this years crops. by @mcbsfarm
