And that’s a wrap! I officially finished my last day at A New Leaf. It’s hard to put into words how much my time here has meant to me. They took a chance and hired me as their Special Events Manager when I was fresh out of college and had no experience in the nonprofit world. During the past few years, I have learned more about compassion, kindness and service than I ever thought possible. I think there are so many stigmas around homelessness and domestic violence that we let get in the way of helping others. When you break it down, it doesn’t have to be so complicated. Every family deserves a safe home, every child deserves to feel loved and every person deserves a second chance, no matter what. We don’t get to decide if someone deserves help, but we do get to decide if we are the one that helps them. I hope to always be that person.

One of the most special parts of my job has been planning the Camaraderie Gala (yes the one I talk about 24/7!) I grew up going to the gala with my family. When they first started nearly 40 years ago, the goal was to raise at least $20,000. Today, I’m proud to say the Camaraderie Gala raises over a million dollars for our programs in Arizona, serving over 15,000 people annually.

I’m closing this chapter with so much gratitude (and lots of tears as I write this). It has been such a special part of my life, but it’s time to come home!
