miss trunchbull has been my biggest dream role for the past five years. i latched onto the idea of portraying her during a time where i was much quieter about my gender identity. often times, i tried to remain indifferent toward the idea of playing a woman because i knew that was the only place directors would see me. i tried to keep the ensembles interest at heart, even if it meant sacrificing my mental health to pretend to be a woman. after some time and self discovery, i realized i wanted to start playing men exclusively (except for trunchbull who constantly sat in the back of my mind as the exception).

being trans in theater has never been easy. for me, it has been filled with constant comparisons, lingering on the thoughts of “if only my voice was a little bit deeper,” but feeling helpless since i was unable to begin medically transitioning until very recently. i’ve thought about quitting countless times because of this since being vulnerable on stage by sharing yourself with an audience is never easy when you can’t be vulnerable with yourself.

yet here we are, i just finished playing a woman, as a man, in a different light than the way i was confined to for all those years. i always imagined trunchbull to be the last woman i ever played… and who knows? maybe she won’t be… but getting to play her has felt like the best possible conclusion to an early chapter in my career and life. i truly cannot emphasize enough how healing, liberating, and FUN this role has been. i dearly hope i get to know agatha again some day.

thank you for welcoming me back for one more round. at first, i was nervous about coming back, but everyone extended their love to me yet again. this simply reinforced my love for the capa family

you are all going to do phenomenal things. you’re so talented and although it hasn’t been a long time since i started with capa, i feel like ive seen yall grow up and i can’t wait to see you all continue to grow. it’s amazing just how much of a difference a year away from it all can make.

finally, thank you so much to the team for your constant leadership, guidance, trust, and love.
