⚪ Get the Ball Rolling! (Dorodango) ⚪

Students create polished clay spheres using the Japanese art of dorodango—mixing recycled clay, shaping with glass jars, and finishing with optional mica powder for a marble‑like shine. Through this slow, meditative process, they explore sustainability, craftsmanship, surface refinement, and the cultural significance of traditional handmade objects.

Created by Leeann McMichael, secondary Visual Arts Teacher at Columbia Central Jr./Sr. High School in Brooklyn, MI. In her 16 years of teaching, she’s become known for integrating technology in the art room, rocking Spirit Week outfits, and keeping the iconic Student Snack Drawer stocked.
