We closed out this year’s Hispanic-Latino Heritage Month celebrations yesterday, October 15, with a truly memorable gathering!

Board President Grace Rivera-Oven and Board Members Karla Silvestre and Laura Stewart joined the MCPS Central Office community to celebrate the rich cultures, traditions, and diversity that make the Hispanic-Latino community so vibrant. Through music, dance, and the joy of coming together, we honored the stories and experiences that connect us and celebrated the importance of embracing what makes each of us unique.

As Board President Rivera-Oven shares in the video, the Hispanic-Latino community is vast, diverse, and inclusive — a powerful reminder that our differences bring us together and make us stronger. ¡Unidos, somos más!

Ayer, 15 de octubre, la presidenta del Consejo de Educación, Grace Rivera-Oven, junto con las integrantes del Consejo de Educación Karla Silvestre y Laura Stewart, se unieron a la comunidad de la Oficina Central de MCPS para celebrar la riqueza cultural, las tradiciones y la diversidad que hacen tan vibrante a la comunidad hispana y latina.

Yesterday, Student Member of the Board Leul Dawit toured the DFNS Warehouse, connecting with staff and learning how food makes its way to all MCPS schools!
After seeing firsthand how the “hot dog gets made,” we’re even more committed to working alongside our partners at DFNS to bring nutritious, diverse, and delicious food options to our school cafeterias. 🍎🥦
