A wonderful evening of art, conversation, and connection! Last week’s “The Evolution of an Art Collection—From Acquisition to Legacy” brought together an engaged audience for a lively discussion about building, caring for, and preserving a collection.

It was a pleasure to moderate alongside Michelle Jung, Oliver Morris-Jones and Wendy Battleson of Bonhams, and Sara Gordon of J.P. Morgan Private Bank. The thoughtful questions and audience participation made the evening especially rewarding.

A heartfelt thank-you to Mark and Michelle Jung for hosting us so beautifully, and to Tony Chopp and J.P. Morgan Private Bank for bringing everyone together. Thank you to all who joined us and contributed to such a successful evening!

APAA members have been sharing personal guides to the cities they call home. Next up, APAA advisor Michele Quinn (@mcqfineart) takes us to Detroit, a city continually inspiring for the depth, energy, and character of its arts community.

The Detroit Institute of Arts holds more than 65,000 artworks spanning American, European, Islamic, Ancient, and Contemporary art. Don’t miss the Diego Rivera murals, a floor-to-ceiling WPA masterpiece at the heart of Motor City.

This past week: the Prado, Reina Sofía, Thyssen-Bornemisza, Kunstmuseum Basel, Fondation Beyeler, the Tinguely Museum, Vitra Campus, the Novartis Campus, and of course the real Art Basel. Along the way were grand hotels, extraordinary meals, and even opera performances.

It has been one of the most exhilarating weeks of art, architecture, design and gastronomy I’ve ever experienced. And that’s saying something for me!

Sharing it with Michele Quinn made every museum, every building, and every conversation that much richer. Great art is always more meaningful when shared with someone whose curiosity, knowledge, and love of art deepen every experience. Thank you Michele Quinn for making an unforgettable week even more memorable. by @mcqfineart

Ewa Juszkiewicz at @museothyssen was a nice change from the art historical canonical viewing of last two days. But I also never realized how massive this collection was! I just walked through the last 100 years of art history. by @mcqfineart

Just in time for Gay Pride week in Madrid! But truly one of the best experiences of FGT work I have seen. Each room was as powerful as the next! This deserved a separate post. ….. As a queer artist working at the height of the AIDS crisis, and within a political climate in the U.S. shaped by the conservative right, the work of Gonzalez-Torres employs a visual language that is purposefully unstable, participatory, and personal. In his elegiac work, the death of his lover to AIDS in 1991 was fundamental. The artist mourned his loss as much as he celebrated their love; the work articulates and enacts this. Gonzalez-Torres’s knowledge of his own impending death from AIDS afforded him the opportunity to contemplate the future of his work, leaving an influential legacy that transforms aesthetic forms into vehicles for both emotional resonance and political urgency. by @mcqfineart
