Manchester Labour aiming to make our city the healthiest, wealthiest, safest, greenest, best-educated & most vibrant City in Britain 🐝🌹
POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED
It is with real sadness that we announce that Councillor Pat Karney passed away yesterday evening.

Pat was the heart and soul of Manchester Labour. First being elected in 1979, Pat was the rock of our Labour group. Pat was a well-respected figure in the group and he was a Manchester legend.

More commonly known as Mr Manchester, Pat was devoted to Manchester, especially his communities of Harpurhey and Collyhurst where he was brought up and he represented for nearly half a century.

Pat contributed so much to our city. He was a strong advocate for LGBTQ+ rights, he founded the Manchester Day parade and was the driving force behind a number of important projects across the city such as regeneration of the city centre following the 1996 bombing.

Alongside the nickname of ‘Mr Manchester’ I think most people would agree Pat was also described as ‘Mr Christmas’. Pat was extremely passionate about all things Christmas, often leading on Christmas festivities all across the city. Pat truly embraced his Mancunian Christmas spirit.

An icon, a legend, a trailblazer. Thank you Pat for everything you did for Manchester from everyone at Manchester Labour. To us you will always be an inspiration, a force of nature and above everything a dear friend. by @mcrlabour

Manchester Labour does not tolerate hate crime.

Manchester is a multicultural hub and we are proud of our diversity.

What we believe is simple. We believe that everyone in our city should be free from hate.

No one should be a victim of hate because of who they are.

There is no place for hate in Manchester. by @mcrlabour

We are creating a National Care Service.

A National Care Service will make social care in this country fairer for all, where everyone contributes and everyone is covered.

Our Prime Minister will build a National Care Service, free at the point of use, to give older people the care they deserve. by @mcrlabour

It was great to attend the official opening of the Bath House in Chorlton today with @jeffsmithmp & @gavinwhite76 . What a fantastic development in the heart of the district centre. It’s providing affordable social rent properties to residents over 55 and the homes we desperately need. It’s a rightsizing project so it frees up family sized family homes. It’s been designed so carefully and looks amazing inside and the views from the top are very impressive.

The green bricks on the outside garden wall are from the old baths. It’s a lovely open space outside, and there’s also a well equipped community room for hire on the ground floor.

Well done to MSV, officers at MCC and Caddick for their design. MSV has delivered a fantastic development. This is what we are doing as a Labour Council to build the homes we need across the city. #chorlton #housing @mcrlabour by @mcrlabour

A busy Saturday of Councillor life in Longsight!

Started with an appointment with a resident at my advice surgery. If you want to book in send me a message. I hold sessions at the Gorton Hub and Longsight Library.

I was then joined by some of my lovely Manchester Labour colleagues and Shahbaz Sarwar for a door knocking session talking to resident’s on Mackenzie, Parkin, Elgar and Farrant. 🌹

Reported some fly tipping on Parkin 🤬 We had lots of conversations with residents fed up with the constant dumping on some of our streets. The council are investing in rapid fly tipping removal to help tackle this and increasing the fines for those caught dumping.

Did you know the council also runs a free bulky waste collection service as well. Find out more here: https://www.manchester.gov.uk/bins-rubbish-and-recycling/get-rid-of-a-large-unwanted-item

Shahbaz and I then popped into Northmoor Community Association to visit Khandan Kitchen who are running a new food bank every Saturday from 11am to 1pm.

Ended the afternoon with a trip to Longsight Library for the Fun Palace and official launch of the new games and benches that have been installed at the front of the Library. The improvements are a result of work done by the Our Longsight Community Plan alongside ££ from Manchester City Council by @mcrlabour

A recent study found that Manchesters economy was boosted by £5 million from the Brit Awards🎤🐝

Our Mayor Bev Craig praised the awards’ move north as a “massive moment for our city region”, with the 2027 event also set to be held in the city.

It was reported that it generated £5m in net additional expenditure in Manchester, with £3.6m coming from visitors and £1.4m as a result of organiser and partner expenditure as well as creating more than 3,000 temporary jobs.

Manchester is the place to be - we are an evolving, booming city that is proud of its achievements and that is continuing to promote our Manchester brand of culture, unity and musical heritage.

Manchester City Council leader Garry Bridges said this year’s award show was “phenomenally successful”.

“The partnership between the Brits and Manchester went so much further – with a massive social and economic reach right across the city and into our communities, which is still being felt now,” he added.

Manchester Labour is determined to work with Bev Craig and other organisations to always put out economy first and work on projects that positively impact our city🐝🌹
