Been feeling like Mondays are turning into Fridays quicker than ever this year. June came and went, and we’re already coming up on the end of July.It’s been nice to be home the last couple of weeks and stack some quality training after a turbulent Oregon Trail race. I missed the first Sierra Buttes race last month, but I’m excited to get back up there for Downieville in early August. I feel like I’ve come up short at this one the past year or two, but momentum and motivation are high right now, which always feels like a win.#nobodycaresworkharder by @mctubbbin

Had a much rougher day than expected on Stage 1 of @oregontrailgravel after a quick bout of food poisoning on Monday. Throwback to the bike racing days I genuinely miss.The year was 2013, and I have no idea why my parents let me drive away in the family car looking like this… This was the second year of what’s now known as @bearnationalteam, back when it was a road team.Those are three of my best buddies at the time, four road bikes, four TT bikes, and a pile of wheels, all headed to Top Sport Stage Race somewhere in Northern California. I was a senior in high school with no more than six months of driving experience in that ’98 manual-transmission Volvo S70.I think we all raced well. My only regret is not taking more bad pictures. by @mctubbbin

A mediocre picture of my new favorite bike. 😍Don’t be afraid to buck the consumer trend of longer, heavier, bigger, and more when it comes to a short-travel Tallboy. I swear I’ve been able to do more with less on every generation of Tallboy I’ve ridden. The sixth iteration of this model sets a new standard for what a 140/130mm trail bike is capable of.I was lucky enough to spend five days on this thing up in Bellingham a couple weeks ago, where I constantly forgot I was on a “small” bike. Sea Otter seems to have gone well, so I figured I’d treat myself to one last moto for the season before things get really busy on the bike front.On Saturday I jumped into the 55th Annual Virginia City Grand Prix. The race starts on the historic downtown drag before ripping off onto the trails. More than 400 racers line up in rows of ten, setting off in 15-second intervals to start the day. The race took me a pinch over four hours and covered about 92 miles, which was good enough for 10th in the 30+ Amateur class. There’s nothing quite like being absolutely locked in and laser-focused in the rocky, dusty high desert. 🤘#virginiacitygrandprix #ktm350 by @mctubbbin

Back to reality after a week of glory. In a cycling world full of hype buzz words Trans Cascadia is actually a race week full of adventure, community, and memories. On day one we packed into shuttle vans surrounded by unfamiliar faces. For the next five days we all raced, hike-a-biked, and pinned the descents as fast as we dared deep in the remote backcountry of Washington. At the end of every long day we ate, drank, laughed, and relived the day’s moments together. The ole cliche lives on and the bicycle remains a catalyst of connection for us all. After twenty stages and about 2.5hrs of timed enduro stages the race week was over as we all packed into the shuttles surrounded with now familiar faces back to normalcy and cell service. @transcascadia, cheers to doing it right and thank you for having us all out onto trails we would likely never see let alone race. 📸 @mthomasphoto #transcadcadia #santacruzbicycles #hightower by @mctubbbin

Never met a sprint I didn’t like… usually. Feels real good to get better and better as this stage race progresses and to snag the win on Day 6 of @bcbikerace!I’m not sure if I forgot — or had never actually experienced — the fun of riding an XC bike at its limits on fast, technical trails with a group of extremely talented riders. As we sit on a ferry back to the United States, I feel grateful and privileged for what was an amazing week of bike racing in one of the most beautiful regions of western North America. I’m grateful to have met new people, grateful for a stage win, and grateful for the support of companies that believe in doing new things and straying from the cookie-cutter norm of what endurance racing has become lately.Cheers to @bcbikerace and @santacruzbicycles. Big ups and a down on Stage 3 of @bcbikerace today. Felt amazing and was able to bridge up to fight for the podium while also putting a good chunk of time into my GC competitors, but I lost it all with a poorly timed flat and two CO2 stops. 🤦‍♂️Ultimately, it was still a damn good day on the Blur!
