Thus concludes our West Highland Way trek. Jerome Jones, James Waller, and I were able to tackle the final leg from Kinlochleven to Ft. William where Tonie Kline, Doug, Jim, and Sally will rest for the night, and Paula, Helen, Jerome, and I head to London on the Caledonian Sleeper. Paula hiked back to bring us in, while sensibly listening to her ankle's complaints from yesterday. taken in Fort William Train Station by @mdonnenberg

Day four of the West Highland Way in the books. It was a bit of a muddy slog; more up than down, but nothing too treacherous today. We started together, but arrived one by one as each of us settled into our pace. by @mdonnenberg

Our 2026 (not 2025 as AI stated!) harvest is complete. We expect 12-14 bottles from our 10 vines: 5 young vines that have yet to reach the second tier and our 1 year olds that just started fruiting. #chambourcin taken in Saint George Island, Maryland by @mdonnenberg

We managed a few pounds of grapes from five vines in our initial effort and decided to have a practice run making wine. After fermentation, various adjustments, and four rounds of racking, today we bottled our miniscule harvest. by @mdonnenberg

First full day in Japan was great. We woke up at 2 AM, so we had plenty of time for yoga, weights, and a run before a delicious breakfast at the hotel in Hineda Airport Garden. Then we took a bullet train to Kyoto. After checking into our hotel, we wandered over to Pontocho Street, an adorable little lane with dozens of restaurants that had 4.7 - 5.0 ratings. We chose one randomly and we were treated to the best tempura we've ever had. From there we walked to the Imperial Palace. We were too late to get in, but the park and gardens were gorgeous in their own right.
Now it's 7 PM and I can hardly keep my eyes open. by @mdonnenberg

Towed Moo Jee back to our pier with the oyster work boat. Refitted jib is in the mail. Engine needs a tune up (Paula's job) and she will finally be ready to sail!

I enter 2025 with gratitude, trepidation, and hope. While I recognize the incredible good fortune that has brought me this far, I feel more uncertainty than usual about the future. The world seems much less stable than at any prior time I recall. From distant conflicts to domestic divisions, societies seem less willing or able to work for the common good. On a personal note, I need to work with my incredible loving partner to envision the next phase in our lives and work toward achieving the goals we define. This past year was a disappointment in many ways. I will use this occasion to dust off, count my blessings, roll up my sleeves, and do my best to ensure that I don't say the same about the new one.
Happy 2025 to all! by @mdonnenberg

We spent most of the day in this beach town. After a nice lunch, we were disappointed to learn that our whale watching adventure was canceled due to poor visibility (fog). However, we enjoyed a lovely walk along the shore and another yummy dinner. We will try again to see whales on our way back from Marlborough wine tasting. taken in Kaikoura - New Zealand by @mdonnenberg
