Language shapes the help we speak about how we feel as journalists.
In the words of @sammyragland Ragland of the @realampress "when journalists have the vocabulary to describe stress, trauma, or burnout, they’re better equipped to ask for the support they actually need".
@mdrnetorg builds literacy around mental and emotional strain, helping journalists and leaders translate experience into action.
The moment we are able to describe how we feel, the better advocates we are of our wellbeing.
Come and experience coaching and counseling designed exclusively for journalists at mdrnet.org 🌳

People can.
What if the most important question about AI isn't “Can it do this?” but “Should it?”
Meet NINA "Nuestra Inteligencia No es Artificial" (Our Intelligence Is Not Artificial), developed by @vitaactivaorg to help connect people seeking support with human responders.
We believe technology can help us find resources, reduce barriers, and make support more accessible. But it should never come at the expense of people's dignity, autonomy, or well-being.
That’s why NINA starts with a different set of principles:
✨ Human dignity
🤝 Care and connection
🧭 Autonomy and agency
💬 Consent and participation
And one idea that guides everything we do:
Sometimes, the right decision about AI is not to use it.
We’re exploring what it means to put care, not efficiency at the center of technology.
💜 Meet, try, and explore NINA at nina.support

➡️ Emotional Management for Reporters, Freelancers and Media Leaders.

How do we recognize when the emotional weight of journalism is starting to affect us? And what needs to change so that care isn’t treated as an individual responsibility only after we reach a breaking point?

TOMORROW, October 8, our Luisa Ortiz Pérez will moderate a conversation with journalists and media leaders Damaso Reyes, Jeje M., and Peniley Ramírez as part of Access Fest 2026.

Together, they’ll explore emotional load, boundaries, peer support, organizational responsibility, and the changes needed to build healthier ways of working in journalism.

📅 Thursday, October 8
🕚 11 am ET | 10am CT | 8am PT
💻 Online via Zoom

Journalists document loss, violence, and crisis. But those experiences don’t necessarily disappear when the story ends.

Miami Herald Caribbean Correspondent @jacquiecharles has covered natural and human disasters throughout her career. In this conversation, she speaks about recognizing the experiences and triggers that can stay with journalists after covering difficult stories, and why awareness can be a first step toward sustainability.

MDRnet creates spaces for reflection, peer-support, and access to counseling pathways designed specifically for journalists 🌱

Supporting the people around us is a skill worth building 🌱

MDRnet's Psychological First Aid (PFA) trainings provide practical tools to help journalists and media leaders respond to stress, difficult experiences, and moments of overwhelm with care and confidence.

You don't need to be a mental health professional to learn how to listen, support, and recognize when someone may need additional help.

Join our free monthly community meetings on PFA for journalists and media leaders, also available in Spanish.

📅 Find upcoming trainings through the link in our bio.

Independence shouldn't mean isolation.

As more journalists work outside traditional newsrooms, the structures that once provided connection, support, and community don't always follow them.

At MDRnet’s launch, @katherinereynoldslewis from @independentjournalists spoke about the particular challenges freelancers face, and why supporting journalists means looking beyond institutional walls.

MDRnet builds community and confidential access points for journalists wherever they work, because professional independence shouldn't have to come at the cost of connection.

Looking forward to crossing paths with Katherine again soon 🫂

Having someone to talk to matters.

Journalism is often shaped by urgency: another story, another deadline, another crisis, another audience waiting for answers.

But what happens to the people doing the work?

At MDRnet's launch, award-winning journalist @maritzafelixjournalist and founder and director of @conectaarizona spoke about the importance of having spaces where journalists can process what they carry, especially when the work leaves little room to pause.

MDRnet creates confidential, profession-specific spaces through peer groups, line support, and curated convenings, so journalists don't have to process the work alone.

Looking forward to crossing paths with Maritza again soon! 💚
