Some things never change- Great Falls, this is for you.

This is a letter from my great grandmother to her brother in law in 1945, a federal judge stationed in the South Pacific in WWII. She and my great grandfather lived on Georgetown Pike across from Madeira and one night he busted out the Wild Turkey 101 (one of my faves) and it “just about fixed everyone.” So much so someone drove off the road near Swinks Mill! Everyone else crashed at the house until the next afternoon.

So… we’ve all been there? 😬😂 taken in Great Falls, Virginia by @mdrohan

March. Back outside.

First trip and ice cream at Ye Old Fashioned. First walk on the Battery. First swing.

Nashville weekend: Third Man Records pilgrimage. Drinks at Virgin Hotel. The Ryman. The $6 recession special at Robert’s Western World: Fried balogna sandwich, chips, moon pie, PBR. View from the Conrad… with a Halls. Apparently, I’m drinking buddies w/ Billy Hall.

Cats and springtime in the backyard.

Shepard Fairey x Beeple. The master at work. DEI!

Picnic in the backyard.

I hate writing this, but we are looking to rehome our 3 year old cat Grace. Grace is very sweet, but can get a little too spicy for some of the less-tolerant members of our family. She loves meeting new people and being part of the activity in the house. She has never had a problem using a box, and is used to a diet of freely available meow mix and a can of wet food for dinner. She’s an indoor cat who dabbles outside, but has never ventured further than a few feet beyond the porch and wants to come back in after 15 minutes.

Grace also loves to get up high, whether on top of cupboards, in closets, or even doorways, she will probably try to find a way to get up there for the thrill of it. Regarding the spiciness, it’s not like she’s outwardly aggressive, more like random swipes at quick moving objects that maybe the right cat parent can train out of her. But at the end of the day, she will most likely be next to you on the couch and at the foot of the bed.

If you don’t know of, but can help find, a good home, please reshare and tag me. Thanks!

Friday marks 20 years since Hurricane Katrina hit New Orleans. I just made a YouTube video telling my Katrina Story (link in bio). I was a sophomore at Tulane in 2005, and it is not only a momentous event in our nation’s history, but in my life as well- even though I was admittedly pretty privileged in only being majorly inconvenienced, rather than anything else. But Katrina, of course, has always stuck with me.

I really fear for the next city and its people to be hit by a major hurricane. This administration puts no importance in the role of government to help in times of crisis. Just this week, 30 folks from FEMA signed off to a report that improvements made since Katrina have more or less been canceled under this administration. They were subsequently fired. The man and his cronies are insane and have no basis in reality.

But I digress. The photos here:

1. Mardi Gras Indians in front of a damaged but reconstructing home, Mardi Gras 2006. I was so stoked to catch the Indians walking through neighborhoods just off of the parade route this year!

2-5. Storm damage and a sign from someone who stayed.

6. I took a class on Katrina during the lagniappe semester with historian Douglas Brinkley. He toured us around the city to different neighborhoods and explained what had happened and the importance of what was damaged. You may recognize Brinkley from frequent talking head appearances on CBS News and other channels, mostly about presidential history.

7-10. My time at UVA for the semester, which included an after-hours tour of Monticello, led by the president of Monticello and… John Grisham?

First MS YouTube video in a while is up! This one is pretty specific, about the worst side effect that has taken most of my attention to dealing with over the past few years, an update on my trigeminal neuralgia. I had gammon knife done two years ago, this procedure where they attached a heavy metal cage to my skull for a day, but the effects from that were relatively minor and have worn off. Last summer, I learned about having a radio frequency ablation/rhizotomy done to help, and after first doing it in October and again in April, I’m feeling the best I have since these painful electric shocks to the face and mouth started a decade or so ago.
