Hello, October 🌙🦇✨

For the first day of October, I wanted to bring together two things I’ve loved since I was a kid: my fascination with bats and the beautiful illustrations of Ida Rentoul Outhwaite.

Nevada is home to 23 different species of bats, and some have adapted surprisingly well to life around Las Vegas — even using our palm trees as places to roost. They also play an important role in our desert ecosystem, helping control insect populations, including mosquitoes and agricultural pests. 🦇

Here’s to October, longer nights, moonlit skies, cooler air, and a little winged magic. ✨

Caminando por las Américas 🌎

Grateful to have been part of Caminando por las Américas, sharing space with so many artists, stories, perspectives, and experiences from across our communities.

My piece, Becoming Home, was born from my own experience with migration and from all the versions of ourselves we become along the way — each one shaped by what we live, what we leave behind, and what we carry forward.

Water represents our emotional world — the waters we all navigate throughout our lives. It flows through and connects the figures, carrying with it the emotions that come with migration: fear, uncertainty, hope, healing, growth, and transformation.

The female figures ultimately come together as one person, shaped by what she has lived, what she has left behind, what she has gained, what she has learned and remembers, and what she continues to carry with her. They are all part of the same person — who she is today and who she will continue to become, because transformation is a lifelong process.

Migration is not only about crossing geographical borders. It can also mean crossing boundaries within ourselves and learning to navigate our own waters. It is a process of finding ourselves again and again, discovering both who we are and who we are becoming.

That journey is not exclusive to those who migrate; transformation is part of being human. But migration shapes that experience differently. It asks us to redefine what home means while, at the same time, redefining ourselves — our values, our cultures, our routines, and our sense of belonging.

Home is not only a place. Home is the self we learn to inhabit, shaped by where we come from, what we have lived, and who we continue to become.

Thank you to @olmecaofficial, @ccpublicarts, @clarkcountynv, Commissioners @commishtick and @william_mccurdyii, and everyone behind Caminando por las Américas for creating a space where so many stories, identities, and journeys could meet through art — and for giving me the opportunity and honor of being part of it with Becoming Home.

In celebration of Latino Heritage Month, I’m honored to be part of Caminando por las Américas / Walking Through the Americas at the Rotunda Gallery.

Seeing Becoming Home in this space felt deeply personal. The piece was born from my own experience of migration and the emotional journey of learning where home lives after moving across countries and cultures.

Water carries the movement of that journey. The doorway within the heart represents the places we continue to carry inside us, while the different figures reflect a process of growth that is layered, intimate, and never linear.

I’m grateful to have this part of my story included in an exhibition that brings together so many perspectives from across the Americas.

The exhibition closes this Thursday, September 24. Join us for the closing reception:

📍 Rotunda Gallery
Clark County Government Center
500 S. Grand Central Parkway
Las Vegas, Nevada

🗓 Thursday, September 24
⏰ 5:30–7:30 PM

If you’re in Las Vegas, come experience the exhibition, meet the artists, and celebrate an evening of art, culture, and community with us.
