# Little achievements, big achievements: 2021 was all about knitting! For me, personally, it’s not about quantity & how much I could produce, I’m all about enjoying the process of every stitch no matter how painstaking they are. Every single thing you knitted is not a competition of quantity for you to compare with others; and I’m happy with how much I knitted this year! Would I wish I have knitted more items? No. Last year’s knits was fulfilled fully based on my abilities & energy I had for knitting. Not less, not more. 🤍

# I learnt many techniques this year, and I was exposed to a lot of knitting knowledge that further pushed me to better my knitting; and that’s what matters the most to me & I’m so grateful. <3

# This baby cardigan was knitted as a farewell gift for our housekeeper’s baby who is pregnant! She is leaving to return to her hometown, and I wanted to knit a little something for the future little one. 🤍 (I am a MAJOR sucker for gift knitting 🥲).

° Random Q: What was your favourite, most memorable or most worn project you made back in 2021? 🐝

# Started the December in love with the construction of top-down cardigans! I love how you can try them on & see how it fits along the way. Cardigans are one of the things that are so essential in my wardrobe, but I really rarely ever knit them! Maybe a few baby cardigans here & there, but never for myself; and I really wonder why. 😗

# I love the lace raglan! Knitting this cardigan as a part of a seemingly never-ending KAL with @firzaraditha 🥲 At first, I was unfamiliar with raglan construction (& scared shitless, might I add), & I was so freaking happy when @firzaraditha wanted to do a KAL with me, because that means I have someone to direct my newbie raglan confusions to 😗, but I was scared for nothing apparently, it didn’t too much of an explanation for me to understand raglan construction, & I loooooved & enjoyed the raglan section of the cardigan! (The whole time I knitted the raglan I was like, “wtf it’s growing”)

° Random question! Do you like top down or bottom up constructions better? 🦩 (Happy 2022! 🦭)

# Appreciation posts for my knits! Whether they are new projects, or old. 🤍 The projects that we knit takes weeks to months, & sometimes I feel only posting single posts & passing off your project only as mere content you need to produce every month is a very tiring mindset. You are not a knitting machine❕You don’t need to succumb to the pressure of producing something that takes hours & a huge toll on your hands just so you can fill up an Instagram feed. You are a person, with a wonderful hobby that is meant to be enjoyed & one that you should appreciate the progress, rather than the result. 🤍

# I used to only knit projects that I thought were Insta-worthy at that time, or ones that were trending, but I realized that I don’t really wear them in the end. You need to know what fits you, & what you think you would wear often! I would just end up giving away those projects or selling them because I knew they would be in the hands of someone that would love the piece better, & I LOVE that more rather than the piece just dusting away in my wardrobe. 🥸 Now I only make things that makes me happy, work in my own pace, & even reject certain commissions that I have no mental & physical energy for.

# I love knitstagram, & there are so much wonderful & talented people, but we must agree that this is an issue in our community that is rarely talked about. This is slow-fashion, & we have to take it slow & just enjoy the progress! Don’t compare your speed to others, everyone is different & you are a special knitter in your own way.🤍🤍🤍

So, yes! I want to see your past projects! I want to see that sweater that took your blood, sweat & tears to knit for months AGAIN! 🤍 Share your thoughts below! P.S. Are you a gift knitter or do you prefer to knit for yourself? I’m a gift knitter! 🕺🏻

# Presenting my current WIP’s! First is a peek to the absolutely lovely Macaulay Top test-knit for @stitchedbydenise ‘s pattern which will be released soon! I couldn’t resist joining the test-knit, after I saw the testing call, I just knew that was something I had to knit & have in my wardrobe — such a chic yet timeless piece! Especially since I’m knitting it in B&W, giving me Coco Chanel vibes! 🤍 You wouldn’t want to miss this pattern. I just finished the back panel yesterday! 🐑🤍

# Second one is a simple fisherman’s beanie for commission work! 🕺🏻 Everything I knit currently is in black, & I could only knit in the daylight when the sun is out since knitting black at night hurts my already terrible eyesight! 😬

# Also, did anyone else liked to draw these one-line, abstract faces or was it just me? I used to draw pages & pages of it during class when I was in middle school! I tried to create a face using the yarn but it looked a bit wonky 😵‍💫 But the next slides are the faces that I doodled about 3 years ago! They don’t particularly make sense & believe me, have no meaning at all 😆 They were just a good stress release! I used to draw lots of them, I just can’t find them anymore! 🥲 They were fun to doodle although most times hurts my hand lol 🥸😵‍💫 Now knitting is the activity that hurts my hand 🙂

# A project long dormant finally finished! Kept this project on the lowkey long enough like it was some top national secret for some reason, I don’t know why I didn’t share more progress of this… 🥸 I casted on 1 & 1/2mos ago & only finished yesterday, it was easy enough but it took so long because I abandoned it to go to holiday & I was taking a much needed break from it after a frogging incident! 🐸

# So, the frogging incident… holy crap. I loved knitting the body of this top, it was just your casual merry-go-round knitting in the round, no complicated details. I finished the body of the top & casted off with a normal bind off (Here’s where I screwed up), & after I BO’d, the bind off ended up being too tight to even pass my shoulders that it looked more like a cowl instead! 🥲 I tinked the BO, & realized I was too lazy to tink back 164 stitches that I just frogged it. Carelessly. Without a lifeline. And I took off the BORM. So I didn’t know where the round started. God help my soul. The stitches were all over the place, some dropping rows down, & I was like, “Nope, 🖕🏻 this.” & didn’t touch it again for 2 weeks. 😺

# Don’t worry, I figured it out, I got the stitches on my needles again 2 weeks later, then somehow messed up the tension, then I think I cried in the corner of my room, then this time casted off with the holy Sewn Bind Off that is super stretchy with little flare! Everything worked out in the end! 🥂🫂

# All that aside, I LOVE this top. 💖 It’s an absolute must have for summer tops, & the wrap straps detail is just so cute & I can’t stop geeking out about this. And listen, listen, … it’s absolutely seamless, took me only about 250m+ of fingering weight yarn, & still have yarn leftover :o

° Yarn: #ParadeYarn in the colour Portland that the lovely @miraalissa kindly sent me from Japan! 🇯🇵💌 I love this yarn, a perfect blend for the summer & I haven’t knitted with a yarn with this fiber content so I was delighted the whole time I knitted with it! Grateful to have had the chance to try a skein out & make something wonderful out of it, thank you Mira! 🌸 by @meaknits

# Listen… I don’t think you get the gist of how much I love sock yarn & knitting socks, so this whole post is a homage to handknit socks & sock yarn. 🐑 Socks are my absolute favourite thing to knit, even though I’ve only knitted three pairs of it! I use my handknit socks on the daily, even though mostly just for sleeping… (Anyone here can’t sleep in without socks? I feel like a granny 🥲).

# I’ve always thought that fingering weight yarn is the perfect size of yarn for me, sometimes I even feel like my hands ache when knitting with DK. It’s so tiny, and it glides on your fingers like butter! 🧈

# Socks, in my opinion, are the most economical thing to knit! One skein of sock yarn could be more on the pricey side of things, but it produces two pairs of something you could wear on the daily! Knitting socks is more affordable to me than having to buy a sweater quantity yarn for a sweater! 🥲🌦

# This pretty baby is @papiput ‘s Tough Sock in Revolt in Paradise that my best friend got me for my birthday! I still haven’t quite figured out what socks I want to knit with it, so I’ll just squish it on the daily until an inspiration comes to me 😆!

( Photographed behind is a hand-drawn poster of Wayang Gunungan (an Indonesian theatre hand puppet that is usually made with leather) that my cousin’s friend drew for their school play prop years ago! I found it in the storage area, and thought it was too good to be stored away & looked like something someone had put a lot of effort into! 🌸 )

# Mini project interlude! I knitted two of these absolutely adorable lil #BubbleBaeBag in two days whilst binging Downton Abbey! Initially, the plan was only to knit the green bag for my best friend’s birthday present — but I wanted one too as a birthday present for myself too last week! 🕺🏼 The pink one is for me, the green one for her! These bags make absolutely perfect gifts, & are so so quick to knit! I knit one of these in about an afternoon! ⛅️ I’m so glad she liked it, it looks better on her than on me! 😶‍🌫️🐑💫

# Sewing the lining though… I absolutely, massively suck at sewing… I don’t have a sewing machine & I can’t sew to save my life, so my boyfriend (who can sew, thank heavens) helped me figure out the sewing instructions & helped me hand-sew the lining of the bags, & the zippers too! We stayed up until about 1am to sew them 😴 I can’t take all of the credit for the sewing, I only did like 20% of it & my sewing job looks laughably wonky! 🙃

# The pink bag has a green checkered lining with a pink zipper (which is not pictured), & the green bag has a pink checkered lining with a green zipper! Gives me watermelon vibes! 🍉

# Loooooook at how pretty & intricate they are! I fell in love with @summer.lee.knits ‘s colour choices for the sock sample of this pattern, so I followed the exact colours but in different yarns! The vivacity of the pink toe adds such a touch of joy to the sock! 💓

+ Question, other than knitting & crocheting, what kind of craft are you interested in trying? I’m really interested in tatting because I love lace a lot — and also sewing, but I’ve always put sewing off because it feels like there would be so much bases to cover! 😵‍💫 Other than that, I really want to try spinning yarn! 🤍 What about you? (I find it hard to try & find time to learn a new craft these days! 🙁)

° Project: #PrettySongSocks (From In Bloom Sock Set)
° Type: Personal project
° Knitting since: August 1st 2021
° Finished: September 8th 2021 (I was busy… and had intense chronic second sock syndrome…)
° Pattern: Summer Lee Design Co.
+ Will be sharing try on pictures this weekend!

— For the love of everything in this world… The socks are finally done… I’ve left the second sock on my needles for way too long. 🧍🏻‍♀️ I finished the first sock in about four to five days & it took me another three week to get to working on the second sock… I literally didn’t touch the second sock at all & had only worked the ribbing!

— I finished the second sock in about three days, & by the third day I just wanted to be done with it… I knitted from 9am-3pm — not moving from my bed — and knitted about 80 rows in a single day & finished it right there & then, & blocked the socks the same afternoon right after it got off the needles! 🕺🏼

— It was worth it & at the same time not worth it, now my right hand & wrist has been hurting since yesterday & I can’t really pick up anything heavy with the hand! It tremors more now & I can feel a sharp pain sometimes on my wrist, & I’m hoping for really speedy recovery! I’m going to lay off knitting for a few weeks! 😵‍💫 </3 (Really sorry I didn’t listen to you more 💔💔💔 @miraalissa )

— TL;DR, conclusion: Moderate your knitting time, take a rest every now & then, don’t knit 80 rows in a day, stretch your arms & hands, don’t be a doofus like me! ☹️ Your hands are a fundamental instrument to knitting! Take care of it <3

+ But despite all that, seriously, can we talk about how pretty they are? I can’t stop looking at the lace details! 🤍 taken in Jakarta, Indonesia by @meaknits

# You know what I love? Lace. Anddddd sock knitting. ANDDD thank Heavens that lace sock knitting exists because they are just the most exciting to knit up! 🌧 It’s just so entertaining to have intricate details just condensed into a small canvas, & in this case, socks! (Also look at that cute lil tiny gummy bear stitch marker, I cannot 🐻)

# Also I woke up today to 1k followers... holy #%**{+]^{* ! 🧍🏻‍♀️These nine months running this account & being in this community is the most welcomed I’ve ever felt anywhere, & I am just so so extremely grateful to be a part of it. 🤍 Thank you so much my loves, enjoy your stay here! I bake meaaan cookies! 🍪

— Book of The Day: I read Comfort Woman years ago, and have just recently remembered how heart-wrenching the book was when I was in class learning about Indonesian comfort women who were forced into sexual slavery by Japanese soldiers during the colonial era.

Comfort Woman tells the multigenerational pain and trauma of a daughter & a mother — who was a Korean comfort woman to Japanese soldiers — had to experience so strongly, and how it affected their relationship. Every turn of a page is so painfully bittersweet, & it is definitely one that will linger with you for a long time.

# Can I let you guys in on a little secret? This might be the comfiest cardi I have ever worn. Case closed. No further discussion. Nada. Zip. Zilch. 🐈 I could literally live & die in it & I would have been the happiest girl on earth. 🌍 Some people here know that I loathe seaming & this pattern requires seaming the panels together, but I was eager to seam it & it was such a breeze since I wanted to see the finished cardigan & I am so satisfied with it! 🤍
# I’m so sad to let this go since this is commission work but I would definitely make one for myself too later in the future! 👀 To those who don’t know, I do open commissions & I’ll try to knit whatever the hyeck you want (although I will be prioritizing smaller projects more currently unlike this one!) & you could just message me & we’ll discuss about it! 🤍🦧
