Rediscovering Myself Part 2:

As I was navigating the heartbreak of losing this child, a heated argument one night led me to say, “I’ve given you every tool to love me the way I need to be loved. I’ve told you exactly what I need from you. You don’t have to agree with me, but why can’t you just be here for me?”
His response shattered my reality. “Because you weren’t there for me,” he said.
For the first eight years of our relationship, he battled addiction—especially the first five, which were the worst. His words referred to the times I tried to set boundaries for myself, telling him that if he wasn’t willing to get better, I couldn’t stay. Looking back, I know I didn’t always communicate that with kindness or patience. I was young, unequipped, and drowning in the lies and deception that came with addiction. But I still gave it my all.
I stayed through the chaos—the toxic cycles, the sleepless nights of not knowing if he was alive or dead. The nights spent driving around, searching for him, dragging him out of drug houses while his so-called friends berated me, called me names, and spread lies because I wouldn’t just let him “have fun” and destroy himself. I refused to stand by and watch him lose his life to drugs and alcohol.
To be fair, I doubt he remembers much of it. Addiction warps reality, blurring the lines between what’s real and what’s not.
Eventually, he got clean—but sobriety unearthed the mental health struggles that had driven him to use in the first place. And he wasn’t ready to face them. Over time, things between us crumbled. We both knew it was time to go our separate ways. He had become too comfortable with me, and as long as I stayed, he wouldn’t grow. And I had my own growth to do.
Sometimes, you have to see the bigger picture—especially when a child is involved. And I’m so grateful we did. We’re happier now, and far better parents apart than we ever were together.

Friends we have a very special #kizomba workshop (hosted with @monica.contrerasg and Mel) on Sunday October 18th with the lovely @ashbylaine

The workshop will take place at @pandoracaferva @pandoraeventsrva from 3-5pm right before our collab with @rvabachata from 5-9pm.

Tickets are $50 with a possibility of a $5 refund if enough people come take the class.

I’ve heard throughout my life that I should be less “intimidating.”
And as women, maybe you’ve heard that a time or two as well.

Society has spent a lot of time teaching us to be “normal” To not be too loud, to care what others think of you.
We’re taught to dim our light, soften our voices, and make ourselves smaller so that other people can stay comfortable.

But what if we stopped apologizing for being bright?
What if being confident, passionate, joyful, outspoken, ambitious, loving, and unapologetically ourselves wasn’t something we needed to tone down?

Feminine energy isn’t about shrinking yourself to make others comfortable. It’s about being uniquely powerful, confident, radiant, nurturing, playful, passionate, and full of love.
You don’t have to dim your light to make someone else feel brighter.

You are allowed to take up space. You are allowed to shine. You are allowed to be a lot.
And the right people won’t ask you to become less of yourself, they’ll celebrate the light you bring into the room.
