There were easier ways to open an awards show.

We didn’t choose one.

The whole performance relied on a number of moving parts behaving exactly when they were supposed to. Artists hidden in the room. A heartfelt protest. And at one point, 14 aerialists dropping into the space simultaneously.
Because surprise only really works when you’re prepared to push a boundary or two.

Behind every apparently effortless moment was a team rehearsing, recalculating, problem-solving and backing each other all the way to showtime.
That may be our favourite part of making live work.
The moment between “this is going to be brilliant” and “how on earth are we going to do it?”

And then doing it anyway.

This year, we let the room lead.

A 1,000-seat arena became a black box theatre. No giant screen. No fixed focal point.

Instead, the show started on a guest dinner table, moved through the audience, then took to the air.
Scale shifted. Perspective shifted. The room kept changing.
