We had the pleasure of welcoming Emma Thompson, the Executive Producer of @medihafilm, to @bafta. The conversation with Director @hasanohhh was moderated by @hanood7sn. Emma brought her warmth to the stage as the discussion covered the realities for women and girls worldwide, especially in conflict regions, and the love she shares for @medihaalhamad. Huge thanks to the @griersontrust for awarding @medihafilm with the ‘Best Cinema Documentary Award’. I read a statement on behalf of @medihaalhamd who was unable to attend. She recently celebrated her 21st birthday in NYC, and she deserves so much love for the courage she had to share her story. “Thank you so much for this award. I want to thank the whole film team for making this movie. Hasan especially—you were like a big brother to me. To producers Annelise, Joseph, Alex and Fahrinisa, thank you for supporting me and helping me share my story with the world.This honor is meaningful, but I must remind everyone that the genocide against the Yazidi people in my home country of Iraq, is still happening. My parents are still missing. Many others in my community are still missing. Women and girls in my community continue to suffer.Please support my story and the women of my country. Do not forget us. Looking back on the PGA Awards! MEDIHA was nominated for a PGA in the Documentary category, which is a pretty huge deal for an indie doc like ours. We producers poured ourselves into this film and this story, just a handful of us and our handheld cameras and a brave young girl keen to tell her own story, and little by little we brought on more dedicated champions of the film who pushed this story forward. This weekend spent in LA was a celebration of that dedication to MEDIHA, to ourselves, and to each other. Onward! by @medihafilm
