You’re on FaceTime with your parents and you notice they look older than you previously remembered despite talking to them most days a week…15 year old you would think it was crazy you weren’t married with kids yet and still calling your parents for advice….and 10 year old you wouldn’t even know what FaceTime was. You don’t feel behind in life but rather confused as to how your life has grown and gone by so quick in so many ways.

Life changes and evolves around us constantly - slowly, softly, subtly, and on occasion suddenly. It’s beautiful, hard, painful, rewarding, trying and unpredictable. The sudden days take our breath away in the best and worst ways. The slow days leave our brains wandering and wanting more. Both equally envious of the other feeling.

Through the mess of it all I have learned that with genuine intention and honest effort - things work out the way they are supposed to. The world around us can be cold and hard but it is important you stay warm and soft. And more than anything it is important that you stay kind. Let people know you love them. Patience, patience, patience - the good will come. But, also remember to take no shit and stand your ground. Balance is hard but it is your key to success.

Most of my 20’s were spent very lost, sad and unable to see the light at the end of the tunnel. As I enter the year I turn 30 - I feel the youngest I have felt in years. Hopeful, happy, and confident for the first time in a long time. I think back to 15 year old and 10 year old me and realize they both would think 29 year old me was the coolest. So incredibly grateful to those who have stuck by my side through the hard years and are still here to enjoy the good times. Also so incredibly grateful to the new people in my life who love me and continue to help me grow in the right direction.

Nostalgia is the most beautiful yet painful feeling of them all. How lucky am I to get to feel it so very deeply all of the time? There are so many versions of myself that I want to give a hug and so many other versions that I want to give a standing ovation. And still there’s so much more growing and changing to do.
