Been living in slab world 🫧

It’s hard to know where to start when talking about sending The Other, my first 5.14. It’s been a big goal to achieve this level, and at some point recently I realized I better start trying if I actually want to get it done. Grades do and don’t matter. I try not to cling too tightly to their significance, and at the same time it’s been useful and fun to set this goal to help guide my climbing aspirations.

The route itself is a spectacular 40 meter technical slab at one of my favorite cliffs, The Robber’s Roost. The process was pretty standard projecting - get the first half dialed, refine the cruxes, learn how to trust impossibly small feet, and try not to cheese grate down the wall.

There’s a lot going on in the world, and it’s a privilege to get to have climbing as such a big part of my life.

End Of Days!

Psyched to have sent this amazing line. I spent half the summer last year projecting EOD. While it’s always disappointing to not send before the season ends, it’s really fun to come back to a route and make quick progress on it the next season. I’ve had this experience a few times and I love the feeling of my body intuitively remembering beta that originally took time to learn. The whole experience was challenging and special.

Sun drenched hikes. Wadings across the river. Blasting techno. Big horn sightings. Steep climbing. All this and more.
On Christmas I wrapped up a proj that I poured a lot of effort into. Last season I fell at the top, and the weather turned too warm to keep trying. This season I changed my crux beta and only tried at the end of the day after sessioning on the vert faces at the classic VRG. The variety makes for big days and kept each try exciting. On Christmas, with the best crew, I screamed my way to the top. @twincannons was up on a rope and captured the send.
Thanks to Nate for preparing such a fun line , and all the work he has put into this cave.
I am unashamed to say, the psyche is high and I love rock climbing!
