LET’S PLAY · CHÂTEAU ROSSIGNOL / CASTLE NIGHTINGALE
.
.
🇬🇧 We got this game at the last Cannes festival @festival_des_jeux_cannes due to main heavy reasons called Cathala + Dutrait. This is an asymmetrical game exclusive for 2 players, in a compacted box that includes even miniatures. One of the players will run the ninjas group (ninja cats), whose aim is to get to vases where they have to find 5 relics. The other player will be the guardian (samurai cat), and will try to discover the paths the ninjas are following in order to interfere and place trapdoors to limit their movement. Each player will have their own way of winning the game, and everything develops by placing hidden cards that will be revealed and trigger actions. It feels a bit like the police vs thief, but on a Japanese feudal setting with an exquisite production, without requiring a huge box. If you enjoy 2p games with some asymmetry and deduction, we’d recommend you to check on this one. by @meeplefoundry

LET’S PLAY · KELP
.
¡Victoria Legendaria!
.
🇬🇧 We have it in our collections since it was launched in Spansih by Delirium Games, but the big boxes in our collection always end up waiting longer to be tested, unfortunately. As soon as we played it, we found it as the most original thing we played in a long time. This feels like a cat and mouse game, but with a fantastic art and new characters: the octopus and the shark. In our play Samu played as the shark, and he needed to try and find where the octopus (Diana) was hiding, while she needed to sneak in and make sure she got her own food. The octopus tokens are hidden, and sometimes they are revealed, so the shark must go in circular motions trying to find it. The game has quite a few mini rules, and the mechanics are great. Diana managed to hide from me, Samu, in the most epic and smart way, and that is surprising especially because she’s generally a really bad liar, yet she managed to trick me to think she was behind a token she was not. What a legendary victory! by @meeplefoundry

LET’S PLAY · CARNUTA
.
..
🇬🇧 Carnuta is the type of product/game which we’d love to work on. Its rules are simple, the box is mid-sized, and the art and production are impeccable and with attention to detail. We love the Belgian publisher @reposproduction and many of their games are in our top of favourites: Toy Battle, Seven Wonders, Just One, Pikit, etc. In Carnauta we will become druids and we’ll compete with potions by acquiring ingredients until someone has managed to gather 11 in their personal area. We will score for cards, which will offer plenty of combos, but the fun part is that in order to play a card you’ll have to pay runes. You’ll have to measure well the amount of moon or sun token you’ve got, as the management is the true engine of this game. The combination of ingredients will increase gradually, and you’ll have to adjust your strategy as you go. Genius casual game for everyone! by @meeplefoundry

LET’S PLAY · NASCARD
.
.
🇬🇧 Aw uau, what an amazing game, truly! We assure you we’re not biased as having worked on its artwork and graphic design, as this game by our dear friend @ferranrenalias and the talented @guillem17coll is truly good. Nascard only retails for 10€, and once you open the box you will have to create your own car circuit with the cards, and you won’t stop putting things on the table. This tiny pocket game has a lot of layers, definitely more than what you can guess at the first glance. You will feel like someone did a mistake by having such an amazing game experience in such a tiny box at a ridiculous price. We feel it’s like a pocket “Heat” game, super concentrated and ready to be brought everywhere, as it streches up to 6 players. We still don’t know how all these rules were able to fit the box format, but we cannot be happier with Nascard’s outcome. We’ll soon share more with you on the process. Let us know your feeling once you’ve tested it. by @meeplefoundry

LET’S PLAY · ACE OF SPADES · CALL OF THE ZOMBIES
.
.
🇬🇧 Another game we’ve been working on for our 2026 releases, which is also at Spiel Essen. Our dear colleague @benjaamorin has recently launched at the @sandiegocomicconmalaga 2026 the comic for Ace of Spades, illustrated by @davidrubinm and edited by @deviriberia. Inside you can find a nice surprise - a card for his already launched board game, Ace of Spades, inspired by Balatro and other similar games, which seem to be quite trendy lately. Benja has managed to bring those mechanics from the screen to the table gracefully. In Ace of Spades we will have a series of cards with the aim of trying to do the best poker combinations so we can damage the enemies, while some will bring in immediate or passive abilities. The expansion has zombie enemies that never die, and the game offers a new mechanic to take on more cards. Note though that the ones you used and have caused damage to an enemy are linked to them, and therefore cannot be used anymore, so that’s precisely why this expansion is so smart. by @meeplefoundry

LET’S PLAY · ETERNAL DECKS
.

🇬🇧 We work with @saltandpeppergames on a regular basis, yet in this case we didn’t do the art nor graphic design, but the layout/graphic adaptation. This game is one of its kind, and those of you who tried it can confirm. What everyone agrees on is that it's loads of fun. The artwork is unique: flat colors, vector illustrations and a limited color palette. The board is a cloth, and you’ll have to create a sort of sudoku inspired puzzle to pass the different stages of the campaign. The interesting part is that communication is limited while being a cooperative game. As you progress with the puzzles, you’ll get more cards, jewels and you’ll be able to add the Eternals in your deck, which will add 8 cards with modifiers and unique terrain restrictions. This game is definitely one of the most originals it has been launched this 2026. We already have it and we love it. Have you tested it? Let us know your view on it, we’re curious. by @meeplefoundry

LET’S PLAY · SPLENDOR DUEL
.
.
🇬🇧 This may not be the top 1 in our 2 players favs, but it’s definitely top 3. And sincerely, really good games must appear on the market in order to de-throne this one. This game is practically perfect based on our own criteria: size, mechanics, art, production, originality and space it takes on the table; yet the expansion brings it to the next level. We find it a must, as it provides new victory conditions that sum to the royals, and some purple tokens. With those we’ll be able to get counterfeiters, which will enable some special abilities like changing costs, get a second turn, exchange tokens and get stronger bonuses and combos. As we just said, the game was already perfect for us, but the dear @brunodesmontagnes did his magic (again) bringing out in this really really interesting expansion. by @meeplefoundry

LET’S PLAY · TAG TEAM
.
.
🇬🇧 We heard so many good things about Tag tem, but it took a bit of time until it was launched in Spanish. We recently got it from Asmodee, so we immediately tried it. It’s a direct confrontation sort of a game, autobattle, where we’ll increase the number of cards on our deck, containing the powers of 2 different characters. We will have to reveal and execute them, until one of the character has no life points left. In the base game there are plenty of characters that offer different mechanics and require different strategies. Moreover, now with the Arthur’s Legacy release and with the SNK one we’ll have more where to choose from. Thanks to Tag Team, Scorpion Masque is now into the 1vs1 cards battle, offering experiences similar to Unmatched and Dice Throne. The formula is simple: good game, affordable price and an endless possibility of characters. by @meeplefoundry

LET’S PLAY · EVERDELL DUO
.
.
🇬🇧 We really wanted to try Everdell Duo since we found about it. Everything the base game offered we liked - although we never got the full collection - except for the beautiful but huge tree, which felt like an obstacle within a good, practical interface. Everdell Duo left us with a very similar feeling as the base game, with small playability changes, yet much more compact. It didn’t lose the mechanics, nor the card combos, nor the events or the resources, so it felt like playing with the same essence base of a more compact game aimed for 2 players exclusively. Most times, about 90%, it’s only the 2 of us playing, so given this Duo version has a similar interface yet more direct, it made us give up on the big box. Did that hurt? A bit, we must admit. Good news is that we have some extra space for a novelty. by @meeplefoundry

SPIEL ESSEN HYPE · 2026
.

🇬🇧Maybe next year if we won’t have as many events, work and trips one after another and so close to the Spiel, we could go again, both of us. Maybe Samu could go with our friend and editor Rafa, who has a small publishing house, @ludicatessen. This year he’ll be at the Spiel with a catalogue full of small but great games. If you can, go by and check Asterton, it’s great. Hopefully Diana will have some time to rest and to buy some games - especially ones difficult to get in Spain - so we can share those with you afterwards. In the meantime we’ll continue to work at the Meeple Foundry headquarter, working on art and graphic design for launches happening in 2027, which we cannot wait to share with you. For those of you going to the Spiel, enjoy it and have fun! The key is to savor the event and play with strangers who you share a common hobby with. by @meeplefoundry

SPIEL ESSEN HYPE · 2026
.
.
🇬🇧Now let’s talk games! What we feel most sad about is not being able to walk through the huge halls full of novelties and sit down to test some games. As usual during the last years, our own wishlist with the most hyped games at the @spiel_messe, but also the BGG hotlist, there are plenty of Spanish games, designers and illustrators, and that cannot make us happier. There are plenty of Spanish publishers not only visiting the con, but their games came to be really hyped. Some that caught our attention are Camboya, Níjar, Gaudí, Queen Alice, Cena and Pasteles. From the international ones we want to have a look at Drillers, Night at the Zoo, Greyline, and the Harmonies and Arnak expansions. We cannot forget about the less-mainstream games we love to get our hands on, such as Grow Sky, Dino Racer, and Crimson Keep. This is just a small selection, and we cannot wait to discover more interesting games. What are your most hyped releases of 2026? by @meeplefoundry

SPIEL ESSEN HYPE · 2026

.
🇬🇧Last year was the first time we went to the Spiel separately. Diana went with her full time job at Devir, in charge of licensing and exporting Devir titles to the rest of the world. Samu went with other colleagues and friends, on his own. As this will continue to be the same situation this year, we know for sure that the Meeple Foundry conventions are @festival_des_jeux_cannes and @ukgamesexpo. We had amazing results from both this year, as they allowed us to start working with strong and well known international publishers on titles we hope will be a big success. This year, sadly, Samu won’t be travelling to the Spiel, as he’s got to work on 2027 projects, both physical games and some app-related ones, where we’ve teamed up with @mantita.games. Diana we’ll be at the @deviriberia stand, so if you see her around, feel free to say hi, she’ll be happy to hug y’all!
