For those who are trying to build their network while at a conference… 😉🤍

This last year in the industry, I have noticed how many events and receptions center around drinks. (You can usually find me at the reg desk answering next day questions from attendees with a glass of Chardonnay. 😉🤍)

Whether you are a one glass of wine gal or a sparkling water girly…

People remember how you made them feel, not what’s in your glass.😊

Get out of your comfort zone and go talk to those people by the booth you’ve been awkwardly making eye contact with. 😅🙌

Ministry taught me more about event planning than I realized. 🙌

When I moved into corporate meetings, I thought I was starting from scratch. Turns out I’d been building the skill set for years:

Volunteer Dinners became Corporate Off-Site Dinners

Church Conference Planning became Healthcare Conference/Summit Planning

Budgeting & Concur (this stayed the same 😂)

And the most useful, staying calm while problem solving on-site issues. 😝

Nobody hands you a manual when you get promoted. (I did get another employee handbook. 😂)

This is what I’m focusing on the next few months:

October is about shadowing every meeting I can get into, not just my own, and taking notes on questions asked, format of the agenda, ect…

November is about inviting my boss and/or a coworker to sit in on a call and give me feedback on what went well and how I can improve.

December is about looking back at my first 90 days, writing down the wins I’ll want to remember, and setting one clear goal to achieve as a meeting planner.

A promotion doesn’t come with a manual, but it does come with people willing to pour into you, if you’re willing to ask.

3 months left in 2026. Lock in. 🔒

Promoted last week. First Discovery Call on the calendar for a 2027 meeting. 🙌 
Excited. Grateful. Also mildly panicking. 😅 
Here’s how I’m preparing: 
1️⃣ Set the call and send a high-level agenda. I’m introducing myself and attaching a simple agenda so the client knows what to expect before we ever hop on. 
2️⃣ Brainstorm my questions ahead of time. What do I need to know now, and what can wait? This is a quick 30-minute “let’s get to know each other” call: their vision and purpose, rough dates, hotel, transportation, and budget. I don’t need the AV details before we’ve even chosen a hotel! 
3️⃣ Pray, then show up prepared. Follow your agenda, highlight your key questions, and take notes as you go. You’ve got this. 🙏
