It starts with a text: "do you wanna dock today?"

And then, a response: "yes i can be at McNally in like 30."

So begins the day-off routine of Meetka Otto, our Rewarded Reader for the month of September. When she's not scheduled for a shift at Dimes, the landmark LES restaurant, Meetka and a close friend execute a protocol they inexplicably refer to as "docking."

"We walk the same route and do the same things and it often even triggers the same conversation starting points. McNally is the epicenter of this habit." (This explains why we see Meetka here on Prince Street so often.)

After browsing our history sections, Meetka and her friend will walk north on 6th Avenue and hit the other stops on the itinerary: Tashkent Supermarket, a certain perfumerie, and C.O. Bigelow. Whatever was plaguing the pair that morning (hangovers, depressive spells, existential malaise) will be vanquished by the end of the loop, replaced by pleasant aromas and a longer TBR list. Meetka says, "we often come back from docking empty-handed, but then I go back to McNally a few days later, aware of what I want to read next."

On the most recent “docking day," Meetka came by to talk about presidential biographies, reading Murakami in Hungary, and sexual escapades in Lauren Bacall's apartment.

There is something very fascinating about this life. This life on earth, such images that conjure in your mind as you fall asleep. And then it is autumn! And the leaves change. And then you are thinking of the perfume you want to buy and maybe returning to brazil, but different. Such a thought. And your friends eat chinese food with such delicate chopsticks and you sit there wondering...what on earth. by @meetka_007

They played this performance on the radio today and every time i hear it i get so crazy especially at the finale. Evgeny Kissin in 1988 conducted by THE Herbert von Karjan with The Berlin Philharmonic. And peep Evgeny killing it. Was listening to mozart piano concerto no. 21 while doing laundry today and was probably under some sort of influence of this rather...explicit piece of music. Anywho, i thought my laundry looked so beautiful in its basket. Smelled good too. by @meetka_007

Remembering when @comeagain.earth and i went to taiwan right after graduating from high school in 2015. Do not go there in July. A rather debased decision probably should have gone to florida or michigan. I hardly remember anything from this trip but the memories i have retained are all negative. But not because of taiwan, just cause i was 18 and didnt know how to plan a "vacation" to a southeast asian country during typhoon season when you are advised not to go. by @meetka_007
