Hagar, 1875
marble
.
(written in the description) In the Hebrew Bible, Hagar was [a Kemetic woman] enslaved to Sarah, the wife of Abraham. God promised Abraham numerous descendants. But Sarah had not been able to bear children, so she forced Hagar to conceive Abraham’s child. Hagar soon fave birth to Ishmael. Years later, after Sarah surprisingly conceived and gave birth to Isaac, she banished Hagar and Ishmael to wander in the wilderness. While in exile, Hagar lifted up her voice in despair. The lines Lewis etched into the figure’s forehead signal Hagar’s distress and her fervent resolve. Lewis transformed her into a symbol of faith and strength, an agent of her own liberation. (Kemetic is more accurate. Egypt, a colonial state, did not exist yet.) by @megalithe_](https://s8.imginn.com/761628315_18618557680055016_7959657242352644765_n.jpg?t51.82787-15/761628315_18618557680055016_7959657242352644765_n.jpg?stp=dst-jpegr_e35_p1290x1290_tt6&_nc_cat=102&ig_cache_key=Mzk1NDk4NTQzMDYwNzc5MDgyMQ%3D%3D.3-ccb7-5&ccb=7-5&_nc_sid=58cdad&efg=eyJ2ZW5jb2RlX3RhZyI6IkNBUk9VU0VMX0lURU0ueHBpZHMuMzAyNC5oZHIucmVndWxhcl9waG90by5DMyJ9&_nc_ohc=OYkeBijdM3EQ7kNvwHPcGFZ&_nc_oc=AdoW0IhKpfXLiI5tQqT_yeP4u2WwxfqTfoaHIwbw5wiTFfA8EYEWwZ0xkrd9Fm2bsB7IgmmjU7wyAqxvf5a0XmyO&_nc_ad=z-m&_nc_cid=0&_nc_zt=23&se=-1&_nc_ht=scontent-ord5-2.cdninstagram.com&_nc_gid=DC5QPT9EOGV5duHR91S46A&_nc_ss=7a22e&oh=00_AQNxzmDc3ghaRHft27DGGwY5L0CDu5mb16mmH0nijX_JWQ&oe=6AC73F7E)
