⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️♾️

I read this in 24 hours and I’d like those 24 hours back just so I can read it again.
Cursed City picks up right where Half City left us. It takes Viv’s story and pushes it somewhere even better; in Half City Viv found self-acceptance, but Cursed City forces her towards self-love, which turns out to be so much harder to earn.
Everyone around her grows too, which I appreciated; none of the side-characters are just standing still waiting for Viv’s next move.
The banter: the wittiest. The romance: deliciously slow. The revelations: jaw dropping.
I don’t want to say too much and spoil anything, but if you enjoyed Half City you will definitely love this
It’s rare for a mid-series sequel to beat book 1 but I really think this one did for me!

Thank you to @netgalley @quercusbooks for the early copy and thank you to @kategoldenauthor for writing this story!!!

Controversy aside, The Works have had some gorgeous sprayed edges. £6 each and definitely rivalling the likes of Waterstones. As a paperback over hardback girlie, I am a big fan! by @megan_reads_stuff

🐸👑🦹🏻ADVERSARY TO THE VILLAIN 🤴🏻🐉💕

I gave this 4.5 stars - this series is a complete comfort series to me at this point; the found-family, cutesy banter and general fairytale vibe is just so cosy. Even when the stakes are world-endingly high, a scene or line pops up to bring some comic relief.
The burn is so. very. slow. The slowest of slow burns.
There were parts of the book where the pace slowed, but tbh I think the quiet moments are part of the charm of this series. If you enjoyed the Spell Shop, I think you’d also enjoy this.

P.s. Please enjoy my doodled-upon photo because I didn’t have the patience for Canva and I wanted some little Kingsley-esque signs.

Happy Release Day!

I was lucky enough to get an ARC of this - what a ride!
Mercifully, it picks up exactly where the last book left off and the first part had me ignoring my responsibilities to binge read.
I really enjoyed reading the romance dynamic changing after events at the end of the last book - sizzling chemistry but zero trust scratches my enemies to lovers itch.
The tarot magic system continues to be such a brilliantly unique and inventive idea, especially in a genre as popular as romantasy.
I did find myself skimming a little during the middle where things slowed down, but I think that’s typical of a mid-series book and is very hard to avoid.
I think this has solidified Elisa Kova as an auto-buy for me and I really can’t wait for book 3! by @megan_reads_stuff

This week I binged Metal Slinger and Light Wielder - I rate Metal Slinger 4.5 stars and Light Wielder 4 stars.
Both fantastic but the sequel was a little slow to start and almost lost me! That said, I’m so ready to get book 3 and see my fave bird boy get his girl 🥰 by @megan_reads_stuff

I’m so happy that giving birth reinstated my attention span! 😅 A week of reading while I nurse has been very productive bc baby is a hungry hippo 🦛

Curious to hear thoughts on Yesteryear especially. I thought the story was really compelling but I’m not sure I felt satisfied by the ending.

Book 99 of 2025: The Housemaid 3.5 stars ⭐️⭐️⭐️✨
Ahead of the film coming out, I thought it was finally time to read this. It was a really easy read, kind of “junk food book” energy, took me two evenings to get through. I didn’t guess the ending until about halfway through but I felt like I had to suspend disbelief in order to fully enjoy it. I do think it’ll make a really good film though! by @megan_reads_stuff

💚🐺MATE🐺💚

I finished this a few days ago and have collected my thoughts.
First off; I preferred Bride. Maybe it was the vampires, idk, but I just felt like there was a bit more going on in Bride and I enjoyed it. That said, I’m still giving this a solid 4.5 stars - Ali doesn’t miss for me, I love the way she writes romance.

A nice easy read for spooky season, a little silly, and pretty spicy but as long as you aren’t trying to take it too seriously it’s a great book.

The Raven Scholar - Antonia Hodgson

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️🐦‍⬛

What a great high fantasy, some might say it was magnificent!
The Raven Scholar had academia vibes, a tournament and political intrigue galore to keep me interested in the short term, but long term this book had so many different threads of mystery that I’m genuinely amazed at how well the book was wrapped up. The lead on to book two was perfection, and from the tone of this first book it’s clear it will be masterfully finished.

Finished my first book of the ‘ber months, aka cozy season 🧶 4.5 stars ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️✨
NOT QUITE DEAD YET is a contemporary mystery/domestic suspense centred around Jet Mason, who gets clomped around the head on Halloween night leading to a head injury which will kill her in 7 days’ time. Jet decides to spend the her last week solving her own murder, uncovering secrets long laid to rest in the process.

I thought the first half or so was quite slow, but it kept my interest enough that I carried on reading and finished the second half in one evening. By the end of the book I was crying and had a headache - a sign of a solid book imo!

Bottom line: everybody in this book needs intense therapy.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ - Honestly the most simple way to describe how much I love this series is the fact I accidentally preordered the 3rd book twice 🥲

I finished it yesterday and enjoyed it so much! If you’ve read the series, what do you think the fourth book will be called? I’m hoping it’s ‘The Villainess’!

@hannahnicolemae thank you for writing such a magical story! I can’t wait for the next one!
