[EP.03] Meg Costello, Hair Stylist, Trichologist and Owner of Coz Salon on Manhattan Ave — a unisex salon offering everything from cuts and color to keratins, extensions, and hair loss consultations. Tucked up a private stairway like a cozy little treehouse, Coz is built on community, comfort, and making everyone feel welcome, no matter how intimidating a salon chair can feel. Good Hair Good Times isn’t just a tagline — it’s the ethos behind every appointment, every nonprofit partnership, and the aura reading event Meg’s already got on the calendar for October.

💬In her own words: “As a hairstylist, I saw the impact of the pandemic on people who weren’t connecting with anyone else - sometimes we were the only person who touched someone, who spoke to them face-to-face, in a week. It made me realize we can’t be alone. We have to interact with each other in these face-to-face, connective ways, and shopping small does that on a deep level.”

What does Coz mean?” is a question we get asked often…
🍃
‘Coz’ was my late father’s nickname. This month marks 20 years since he passed away after a short battle with AML. I was 20 years old, preparing to leave college and begin my career in hair, when we had one of our last conversations. He was supportive of my decision and simply asked that, someday, I open a salon and name it Coz. I knew he was joking—but the idea stayed with me.

As my career evolved, I realized this industry could be about so much more than hair. My grief began to connect with the growth in my career. I wanted to create something that honored who he was while also honoring the art of the industry I was falling in love with.
As hairstylists, we’re given the opportunity not only to create, but also to offer people a sense of comfort—to use our knowledge and talent to create beauty and help people feel good.

My father believed in service. He made time for people, brought humor and positivity into difficult moments, and had a gift for making everyone feel seen, heard, and loved. I decided I wanted to create a space that reflected those same values: a place where people could feel welcome, cared for, and completely themselves.

In 2021, his departing joke became a reality. Coz was created as a space rooted in acceptance, community, and care—a place where beautiful hair and beautiful experiences coexist.
I’m endlessly grateful to the incredible team who brings this vision to life. We’re here for good hair, good times, and making you feel beautiful inside and out.
